Radio In Glove Box

Not in glove box but did install a hidden Bluetooth.
I removed my behind the seat gas tank and made a speaker box in its place.
On the one end of the speaker box I installed a round flush mount marine Bluetooth stereo so with door open I can still adjust settings if needed but most everything is controlled from smart phone.
Then install a toggle under dash to turn it on or off
I kept my working am radio in place.
I installed
metal on the back of the seat. Otherwise the foam deadened the sound.
You can’t tell where the sound is coming from. Sound quality is really good.
Hidden Bluetooth and working original am radio.
Just a thought.
Of course it only works if you have rear gas tank.

I just said screw it and cut the dash for the new radios..

I did this quite a few years ago. I ended up making a box out of MDF board glued and nailed together. Then I covered the box and the inside of the glove box with speaker carpet as well as the door and made the cupholder. I made a template out of cardboard so all the angles and contours were perfect then traced it onto the wood and it holds the stereo no problem it’s actually only three sides. Very solid as the stereo doesn’t weigh much. It’s all on the right side of the glove box I still have room for owners manual spare fuses duct tape. LOL my stereo had a remote which was very helpful because of its location.Easy to pull out and get access to if you need as well. Cheers

Here’s a picture of my glove box. Pretty simple design nice and tucked into that corner. Same stereo I installed 15 years ago. If I recall I put an extra support on the front face of the wood to help hold the stereo in place. Cheers

Here is my install. The newer radios are not as deep as they used to be. No need to cut the glove box.

my 71 K20 burb came with this in the glovebox and kick panel speaker covers..

not my style and probably remove eventually, but very thankful he spared the dash and doors from the sawzall

my poor old K1500 burb dash was butchered with a dull knife and a block of wood..



thankfully brothers had this on sale a while back and cleaned it up a bit..



if I was a digital kind of guy, this would be my first choice, does everything but play cds..

I use Custom auto sounds. They make great stuff that fits the stock opening. You can go conservative or wild. In my 70 truck I went with just the radio and a dual speaker that fits in the stock speaker location under the dash.
In my 72 suburban I did the kick panel speakers and door speakers. (Previous owner had already cut the holes in the doors so might as well fill them up with speakers)
and then I installed a subwoofer under the back seat. Sounds awesome.

ironically my hacked dash sub radio has a remote but the glovebox radio doesn't

OK stereo's are not my strong point, I am looking for a set up for my 63 Impala without cutting dash. I now have a single din mounted under dash in a custom box

Yes this is an old thread but continuously relevant..

IF you can live without AM/FM, there are a number of really clever Bluetooth options these days.
