My last hoorah...1972 K20 Cheyenne Super frame off

I've bought quite a few trucks over the years looking for that elusive "right one" and just never found it...came close several times, have a few hoarded back and sold a couple I probably should have kept.
Anyway I came to grips that I was just going to have to restore what I wanted..wishlist was short but hard to find in a 48 year old truck.
1- Cheyenne Super
2-Original drivetrain
3-Legit truck with original spid
4-automatic trans
5-factory a/c
So the last one I bought in Lake Havasu AZ is officially the one. Doing a "driver" restoration
to still enjoy it but look good.. Unfortunately it wasn't as described but still a legit overall good truck.needs cab corners, inner and outer rockers and all 4 cab supports, so we'll do a 1 piece floor.. ds bedside is dented up to the point that I'm just replacing it with a super nice one I had and replacing front bed panel due to a few dents.
enjoy the pics, more to come..

I’m in for this one! That’s an excellent starting point and after seeing some of your other work I’m confident this one will come out great!

Good OUTER rockers and everything inboard rusted out ??!! I’ve been around hundreds of these trucks and I can’t say I’ve ever seen that! Must be an Arizona thing........

Probably could have saved the floor but all the cab supports and inner rockers were toast it just makes such a cleaner job with the one piece floorm

I had a truck where the rust was confined to the inner rockers. Think wet shoes and boots with a rubber floor mat that trapped the moisture near the kickpanel and inner rocker.

My K10 is like that too. The inners are rusted at the top where they spot weld to the outers. I believe Pete is right on this one, that’s about all I could figure too. The rust is from the inside out. Nice progress on the tear down!

I’ve had a few trucks from
Utah Montana
Look good on the outside
But
Underneath, cab supports were rusted out
I figured it was salt on roads
But otherwise, dry climates?

I want to see how that floor is going to fit with the rockers attached. I kind of have the same problem so I'll be watching your photos of the replacement

Re: My last hoorah...1972 K20 Cheyenne Super frame off

Floor fit like a glove...the AMD stuff seems to work great but who knows if its not stamped in one place and marketed under various names ??? Going a different route and taking fenders, doors, hood, radiator support, and all small parts including air filter, engine brackets etc for dipping Monday...will post pics of that next week

So you have somebody that still strips parts chemically? Our chemical stripper has been gone for years.

Is the gear ratio tag on the front axle? If so, what location? Thanks. Looks solid.

52napco, just curious, did your seller in havasu live on McCulloch?
I always see a lot of 67-72 trucks when I drive past his place.
