Life "thumb twiddling" sentence

Hello, Gang:
I haven't been on here in some time. Just a "howdy" and well wishes to all of you.
Due to "Father time", health issues, aches and pains and closer to VA health and medical access for both wife and I, we called it quits at the "Home farm in Oklahoma and moved to s/w Mo. We're city dwellers now, so wife made me leave the cow-dog, '46 V-12 powered chev pu, other valuable possessions behind locked in the shop. The place is well watched and cared for by a young neighbor man and family who rented all the grazing land. Not much excitement happens here on 4 blank walls and "Little house on the prairie".

So just getting computer hooked up, and enjoyed the afternoon catching up with ya'll.

Howdy!

One of my grandmothers was from SW Misery. It was a big mining area then.

My late dad, who I didn't know back then, had a Chevy dealership in NW corner of TX panhandle

We have a son and wife who lives in the big city of "Pony", Montana. He's a mechanic for company who has a string of forest fire fighting airplanes in a town near there.

We're over near the middle of the state, not in any town at all.

About 16 miles to the nearest gas station and a little farther to the PO. That's all there is there besides a bar.

Hey Kent, glad to hear from you. Gosh, did I remember your name right? Odds are 91.9:8.1 on that! I hope you can get out and run Cow-dog time to time. That truck was an epic project carried out here. Most people didn't even know GMC built V12s back then

Next time down "float dunkin"!, give us a holler, and we'll come down and eat with you (our treat) there in Noel. We lived there in '69-70. Lived in "North" Noel across from chicken plant and behind the Motel. Had trailer house parked there at Peterson propane storage tanks and office. Lived there when Noel had the big "train explosion". The concussion blew our trailer windows out on that side. Was a shocking wake up call, for sure. We had residential propane tanks all along the tracks within a block from the explosion. Within a hour, the state safety people were there and "ordered" me to get there and turn the residential tanks off. Who knows, I might have filled your camping propane bottle for you??

We looked in Noel for a house on the river, but no luck, so bought this in Anderson with a nice back yard creek that dumps in the Elk not far from here.

Everything has sure changed since then, tho. The only thing I don't like is "all these darn trees"------Can't see a darn thing after being in the Okie Panhandle all those years!!! grin

Thanks for the offer! We've pretty much quit floating- after the last time when we saw more cops on the river than we saw on the road getting there, to include ghillie suits hiding in the bushes and helicopters! Bought a boat-I'll holler and wave on the way to Beaver!

Roger, the cowdog has adopted a new mini-human to protect, wrestle with, and SLEEP with. Our son and family is keeping him for us. They have a 3 yr. old daughter who Roger has adopted. David says they are never apart. As possessive as Heelers are, I would feel sorry for anyone who he thought would harm her.
They still have part of the old farm, and out in the country, so he can run to his heart content, and look after Miss Nora Beth, so I guess he's no longer mine. I'm glad.

Wow, small world. I didn't know he posted it, but he is "Haystack". He lives on part of the Okie farm and looks after my shop, and the house for us there. He and his little bro helped-watched the pu put together in the shop when they were kids.

If you lived in/near Guymon for a long time, I bet you either knew or knew of my biological father (or my half sister and her late husband and their son who ran the dealership later) down the road a ways across the Texas line.

Where and what dealership did your family have? I can almost call n/w Ark and Guymon both home. If a dealership in Guymon didn't have a part we needed, and a neighboring dealer did, we'd go there. Our family has had ties in both places for many years. My dad's folks went there in 1894 and homesteaded. We still have it with some more added that joins it. When asked how they survived both "dust bowl" and "depression", they would grin and reply. "We never could decide if it was "determination or stupidity!!!!

They actually bought the Chevy dealership in Guymon IIRC, and then it got yanked away from them in 2009 even though it was new ownership and being upgraded. Also the one in Clayton NM.

We lived there during that time in Guymon. Our farm is 11 mi. east on same street, then dirt road from there. Did business with them.

We went thru Stratford every time going to Amarillo VA.

My niece (one of them) and her husband ran the one in Clayton for a while. I can't remember who was going to move up to Guymon and run that one? At one point they were trying to get me to move down there and work in the three dealerships.

I'm glad I didn't now. I don't know if I did/said something wrong but some of the family got a burr under their saddle about me after a while. Maybe they thought I was some sort of gold digger but it was my dad that tracked me down and called me after 40+ years. And I didn't see any reason to be bitter after all that time. There's always two sides to a story.

But I wish them all well.

When I was down there in 2008, my "retired" dad and I ran errands for the business. Among other things we took a brand new Silverado down to the huge Chevy dealer on the west side of Amarillo and exchanged it for one of a different color, that their customer wanted. Fun times

Sounds like you described Pony. Wife and I volunteered as camp host at Bannack, an old mining town and Montana got it, made a state park, and try to keep it as original as possible. Interesting place to visit, read all the history, and things that took place there back in it's heyday. We really enjoyed our 30 days there, and could run over to Pony to visit son and wife on our days off.

Interesting place to visit, read all the history, and things that took place there back in it's heyday. We really enjoyed our 30 days there, and could run over to Pony to visit son and wife on our days off.

I'm kicking myself now that we missed Bannack by only a few miles back in 2003. We had gone over to a dog show in Missoula with the twins and then down to the Big Hole valley where we saw the battle field and camped way up at the headwaters south of Jackson for a few days. Then we headed back home but turned off and went over that scenic highway through the Pioneer Mts. If I had known what there was at Bannack I would have for sure went there because it would have been great educational experience for our high school daughters.

That was our last camping trip because living out here on our place in the pineywood hills there just isn't much incentive to go anywhere. The little trailer has gotten all beat to heck in the hail storms but now we have a pickup and canopy and hope to take a few camping and sightseeing trips just the two of us.

I wondered what happened to you. The Wood family has the Chevrolet and Toyota dealership here and the Ford Chrysler dealership at Jane Missouri. My dad was a patient at the Fayetteville VA for years .

Darn the old age things that catch up with us .. I did the same thing now some 8 years ago.. moved to Cul-de-sac in town with no shop building and left behind lots of my toy tools .. if I was still driving to Arkansas to visit family and friends I could easily stop by as it wouldn't be much off the beaten path ...I know a bit of what you mean with health issues.. good to hear from you ..
