Door strikers

How are you guys finishing the door striker plates? I took mine to powder coater today and he told me I would have to remove the plastic thingy on backside. Would it be better to just buy new?

Re: Door strikers

You are likely working on a 1966 or earlier truck.
Yes the nylon piece will melt.
Consider having it plated instead?

Re: Door strikers

I sandblasted and sprayed mine with black epoxy - gives it a nice satin sheen and the epoxy is tough.

Re: Door strikers

I zinc electroplated mine then clear coated. The clear coat protects the crevices where home electroplating doesn't protect very well. A chip here and there in the striker and the zinc prevents corrosion.
