I just finished installing power brakes on my son's truck and would like to know what ya'll are running for air cleaner's. The stock one on the I-6 will not work anymore due to the booster. Thanks, Mike

What you need is one of these. It's a factory stock unit and stock is usually better

than the aftermarket items which IMO look out of place on a vintage truck. This one is not for sale, but you're free to post a WTB ad on the parts board using these pics, so people will know what you're looking for.

I'm running one of these (not purchased from these guys, though) with a K&N filter element and a ~5-inch GM carb spacer thingamajoob (or whatever they called 'em) and I love it. Sure, it's not exactly stock, but there are a lot of things going for it:

PROS

Very lightweight (spun aluminum)
The contour shape of the base reduces intake turbulence
The tall, domed top helps maintain air volume
The K&N lets the engine b-r-e-a-t-h-e
The combo just clears the hood without any mods on top of an Edelbrock RPM with a 1406 carb and the spacer thingy
It looks cool, there's no big-ass logo stamped in it, and you don't see 'em as often

...and a few things that don't:

CONS

It's kind of expensive (about $120 for the whole setup)
The aluminum will tarnish and get all nasty unless you wax/polish it

All-in-all, it's the combo I'd buy again and again.

no matter which way you go you are looking at some big money. hows your fabrication skills? buy a Mr. Gasket chrome 6 or 8 inch air cleaner for a 4 barrel & make an adapter plate with 2 long studs to hold top in place. I did this when mine was a I6. I ended up trading engine & all related parts fpr spare cab so I dont have any pics or parts any more.

Oh jeez... yeah, I don't guess my combo would work real well on an inline six cylinder.

Thanks for the replies guys! I'm probably going to go with the fabrication route. Seems like a simple solution. Now if I could find the stock setup it would be sweet, but then again this is a truck I'm helping my son redo for his first vehicle and his(me) money pit is going dry!!!!
