Visiting the former St Louis factory?

Has anyone visited the site of the old St Louis Truck Assembly that built our pickups (including mine)? The facility is now a business park called Union Seventy Center that leases space to other businesses for manufacturing, warehousing, etc.

I am hoping to take road trip in my '68 this fall that would take me through St Louis, and I'm wondering if it's worth the time & effort to stop. As you would expect from a 100-year-old industrial site, it's not in the best part of town anymore. I think it would only be worth stopping if they had a display that paid homage to its former purpose, or at least a good photo op where I could park in front of some GM logos.

I did a few new model launches there during the squarebody era, but have not been back to St Louis proper since that time.

I also spent two summers building prototype van bodies in Wentzville around 2009/2010, but realize that was not the same.

I've been debating this as my truck turns 50 this month, was built at the STL plant and I live about 1.5hours away. Even with all of this, I don't really think it's worth it because of the location. It looks like there is no parking along Union Blvd, which is where I would want to park for a photo as that's about the only part of the building that looks similar to what it did. Everywhere that appears to be accessible looks... like every other factory. It's unlikely anyone that works there is going to care or appreciate it, so it'd mostly be symbolic for me alone (and the fine folks here). Add on top of it, that this isn't a great part of town, and I'll probably just dream about the trip instead.

My '71 K10 was born in St. Louis and while it's nice to think a good back ground pic could be taken if it made the trip, so many of the old factories no longer exist at all I doubt seriously if it would be worth the time and expense involved.

And take at least one other with you that is also carrying. You will want someone to watch your back while you are snapping photos.

Back in 1984 or so, I was given the grand tour of that plant by a friend who was a security guard and previous STL policeman. Pretty cool and wish I had taken some pics…

My '71 Jimmy K/1500 was built there. I heard St Louis [''S'' in VIN] was the primary K/5 plant, and they only added Flint in '72 to keep up with Blazer/Jimmy demand.

Thanks everyone for the input. 72afr answered my question--sounds like there's nothing there to make it worth stopping. I'll plan to keep driving thru St Louis.

Several years ago, I bought some wheels in East St Louis.........woooo boy! Not a place you want to be at night probably.
