72 GMC 1/2 Ton Door Label

I'm having a repo door label made for my 72 Sierra Grande but I'm not sure what it should say. I've searched extensively online and am more confused than ever. I realize that GM was anything but consistent. Not sure of the exact date, but the original 402 BB was made in Tonawanda on Nov 24th and I have the warranty book dated 12-28-71 and the cancelled check the first owner paid with dated 12-29-1971 so I'm thinking that the most likely DOM would be 12/71. Truck was made at Flint plant. What do you experts think?

Second question: Should the label have just the VIN and DOM or as some I've seen online include the axle ratings and a note that its a Truck or something to that effect? The axle ratings are on the stainless steel door jamb plate so not sure if I need to repeat them on the door decal.

If one of you has a photo of a Flint 1972 GMC 1/2 ton with a DOM of 12/71 that you could post it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Re: 72 GMC 1/2 Ton Door Label

My search indicates that 1971 door labels had just the VIN and DOM and 1972 labels had the axle ratings and "Truck" printed under the VIN. Found a 9/71 label but not anything later in 71. Since I believe that my truck DOM is most likely 12/71 I'm not sure whether to follow the 71 or 72 version. I'm thinking that it should be 72 even though it was built in 71. What do you guys think?

Dmarty,
Did you by chance get a hold of Jeff at http://outintheshop.com/
He may shed some light to your questions.
He expertly reproduced my blue door label and SPID.
Good luck in your search,
Sam

Re: 72 GMC 1/2 Ton Door Label

I have not yet but did see your post in a prior thread and will follow-up on your suggestions. Thanks!

I did find a pic of a 12/71 build date door label in the "Build Date Project" thread and it has only the DOM and VIN, no axle weights or "Truck" under the VIN so it looks like my assumption could be wrong. It's from an Atlanta truck though so still not sure of what Flint did at the end of 71 when they were building 72's.
