Re: What kind of Music do YOU like ? Post it up, Please
I know exactly how you feel special-K, I was never one for over simplified drums. The same snare in the same rythm over and over is like it’s poubding your head.
It’s a guarantee that no drummer could ever fall asleep in the stuff I listen to haha. You really should check out the guy I posted the link to above, he’s really amazing to watch play, and he makes it look effortless. And it sounds like you and your buddy have had some good times. I hope I can find a good friend someday to just enjoy the simple things with. And I’d just like to say it’s awesome how many musically open minded people there are on here. That is a rare thing to come across in my area.

Funny song about bar fights.
Take a few minutes and listen to the lyrics of this song. Makes me laugh every time. By an old country artist that most of you probably never heard of....

That Giulio Galati is pretty good. Yeah, I can take or leave Dave Mathews band. One minute they're headed into one direction, then next another. Not even sure why I chose the Halloween tune for my collection, because I generally pass over it. I do like the drums on some songs though. He can play equally using either hand on either drum.
Didn't realize you played the drums too Tim. They're sure fun, and the better we play the more fun. The more pain too. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0XCbfAzOq9c Not sure I agree Carter is repetitive. Anyway, here's a drum solo, and does seem a bit repetitive go figure. Not sure what's in his mouth: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M9Pb6PF8LXA

Re: What kind of Music do YOU like ? Post it up, Please
My X liked to watch that. I am always the one for the underdog(s) in any contest...unless it's my favorite team, contestant, or whatever. I've never followed the popular path. Karaoke got more popular at the local bars and I'd tell my wife I felt like we were sitting in on Idle American.
So much good stuff I can't comment on it all. Still catching up on listening to all that's been posted. Could you guys stop for a while? JK! I know music isn't only about the technical level of playing instruments or always giving all you've got. It's the combined sound and how it is received that makes a song what it is. Some people only hear kaos as soon a a drum solo starts. Or a loud and fast guitar solo is just noise. Charlie Watts is one of the best drummers ever, yet he just does his job well and is very subdued... modest... unflashy. Listen to Sympathy To The Devil for an example of how busy yet efficient he holds that rhythm line to the melody. I wasn't saying the drummer in Mathews' band couldn't play. It's what he does on the popular songs they only play on the radio that contribute to my opinion that the band is just so-so. They became the band to like for college students in the '90s because they came out of Charlottesville, VA college town. I'll take the Black Crows any day, who also sort of fell into that realm. I guess Mathews' band lacks soul to me. Yeah, played drums but haven't in years. Played with buddies in my teens to songs like the '60s tunes I played by the Rascals, Animals, Boxtops, etc. and soul music. Basically a garage band that played at parties. That was big in the '60s. I had an older sister (very pretty) so was around the cool older guys a lot and kinda got taken under the wing, so to speak. I never had a big set of drums or went real far. In the '70s for a while I did get some guys together to play Allman Brothers songs. My surfin' bro was a fantastic drummer and we loved the Allman Brothers Band. So, I laid down the basic while he did the embellishment...mostly. Called ourselves The No Man Band. Same thing, just played some local parties or free concerts they used to have back then. I have a brother 15 years younger and he had the drumming in his blood. He was in the HS band, but no drum set. In his room I'd see pictures he drew of huge drum sets with a guy playing. He was a big Rush fan and idolized the drummer, who was very young and talented. He had a set of drum pads. I decided to give him my set to allow him to flourish, and he did! He got real good real fast and drumming became his life. No big time bands, he prefers to stay up in the mountains and forgo the big city. But he plays in bar bands, gives lessons, and rebuilds/refinishes sets to sell as well. He even had a drum shop for a while. I agree, it's good to see we have some open minds when it comes to music appreciation. I try to be open myself. I have what I feel relates to who I am and then there is that which just sounds good, makes me feel good, or just can't deny is good music even if it ain't my thang I really like Phoebe Killdeer and the Short Straws. Something about her music... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PTRiW5TL594 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RzNe8w0VNhU Dylan LaBlanc. Great song https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3C-rJrPuF-g Just listened to that and realized it has that single repeated tap, but in this case it's an acoustic song that is electrified with drums added. Not a rock song where drums are a necessity to the whole. The guy in this song does just what was needed and ended up with a couple change ups sticking with Mathew toward the end, after just Steady Eddie through the song. More drumming just would not fit right. Could have tapped a cardboard box if it wasn't for the electric base and guitar that normally aren't used in that song

Re: What kind of Music do YOU like ? Post it up, Please
You got me at that fuzzy slide guitar up front. I can see why the Greyhounds made you think of them. It's nice to see the younger paying tribute to the old sounds these days in their own interpretations, which is exactly what our generation was doing back in the "good old days"
Keb Mo isn't so young and has music has been around a while, but I love his connection with the origins of blues... the Delta. The more raw the better. You don't need a whole lot to make a full sound in a song. Am I wrong? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qKQWhsLbe9E I had a stripper dancing to this one... once... a very long time ago https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m43MfixAIq4

Ah, Taj! Probably the first guy I heard on my local college station (KCSB-at UC Santa Barbara) when I was a kid that made me think about it. Probably he's to blame for me lovin' the blues so much-even if I didn't recognize it as such at the time. Heard this on the radio today, Taj's daughter Deva Mahal coverin' dad:

I still have it and the cover has been just the front and back totally worn into separate pieces. In the last year or so I stumbled on one in excellent condition in an antique mall.
