Re: Nsane 52' Chevy Truck!

DeWayne, Here are some pictures. I used a DD to spline coupling to couple the sidewinder box to the steering box. Made a plate to mount the sidewinder box to the frame that way you can remove the cab without removing the box. It worked out really well. I used the stubby column with double drops. I mounted the motor behind the cab (crew cab) I am making the ramp bed out of tubing for the structure. The sides will be painted with interal boxs and to deck will be polished alum. The rear beaver tail (ramps) flip up because my buddy wanted to also be able to pull a goose neck trailer with it. If you need anymore pic let me know.

Re: Nsane 52' Chevy Truck!

Do you always do some of the welds and grind them before adding more welds, or was that to show us amateurs how smooth you can make a panel joint without using filler? Is that tig welds?
Beautiful work, very inspirational. Keep the pics coming.

Thanks Russell, I grind after each set of welds. The welds in the pic are mig. The bad thing about this is, I found two rust free doors today! Oh well I'll save them for the next truck. I'll have more tomorrow! DeWayne

Just wondering, if you grind after each set of welds, and if you weld the joints solid in the end, how much metal is removed from the original panels that are being joined? Wouldn't they be much thinner after all the grinding?

The key is to only grind the weld. Fit-up is very important. When I grind the welds the first round I leave them just a little higher than the base metal. Then finish them when it is completely welded. Thanks
