Re: CUSTOM CAMPERS lets see them!
Wow. Great thread. How did I miss it.
I wish who ever ordered my truck would have checked off one more box since it has all the required suspension and tire upgrades. Got a few questions for those that have actually put a camper on their trucks. What is your GVW? I don't see how these could have been legal with those old campers. My GVW is 7500, the truck weighs 5000, that only leaves 2500. Were not most of those old campers heavier than that?

Re: CUSTOM CAMPERS lets see them!
Does anyone have a 72 Custom Camper door with no emblem they can measure the distance from the door edge to the first emblem hole for me? The factory manual isn't too clear on this. Adding the badges to my otherwise camper equipped K20. Appreciate the help.

Re: CUSTOM CAMPERS lets see them!
here's my latest addition, meant to add it to this thread - long ways to go still though...
bought it from the original owner, great guy. it's a custom deluxe highlander pkg c (will eventually have the original blue plaid again sometime soon, and maybe add the missing toolbox back in, somewhat later). |

Re: CUSTOM CAMPERS lets see them!
Thanks for posting that info SS Tim.
So if I'm reading that right they assumed a camper, passenger and equipment weight of 3100 (using the 7500 and a 10-11' camper as in the chart) That only leaves 4400 for the empty weight of the truck. I know mine weighs almost 5000 lbs. So did people just drive with them overweight?

Re: CUSTOM CAMPERS lets see them!
Here a custom picture just for you 396C20.
1969 Salesman's "calculator" for camper equipment. Finally I do have a question, are you thinking about putting a camper on your truck or is this all academic?

Re: CUSTOM CAMPERS lets see them!
Thanks for that SS Tim. That's a cool little calculator.
I bought my truck with the intent of towing a car trailer or putting a camper on it eventually. Looks like I may be limited to a 9' camper. I'm in the process of putting together a 454 so power should not be an issue. Thanks again.

For thoses who are lost by the question here a link to #197 http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...&postcount=197 with the OP's picture. While I still think these were for a windshield cover, there is the possibility they could have been for air deflectors too. They were kind of a spoiler in front of the vent window full of holes to cut down noise while driving with the windows open.

Yours were likely changed over the years to the standard 20 emblems.

Re: CUSTOM CAMPERS lets see them!
Not that I know of, but then I don't recall actually doing a hard search. Should be easy enough to find a set in the parts section. Or you could become a subscriber and post a want to buy ad, who knows you might score some GM replacements (so called NOS).
Chevy ran them (door scripts)only in 72 but GMC used them for a few more years that I can't bracket off the top of my head.

As long as this is back up I will add my all original '68 Custom Sport Truck/Custom Camper. It has the optional buddy buckets, choke delete, 16.5 x 8.25 wheels with small caps, and ram assist power steering. Even though I bought this out of a salvage yard where it had been for 10 or 11 years I am actually the 2nd owner. I have been in touch with the original owners wife. LockDoc

Re: CUSTOM CAMPERS lets see them!
I'll jump on board here, just picked this 69 zero rust NM truck originally purchased here in Albuquerque, has protecto plate and original invoice. It's been sitting for 8 years. I've had my eye on it for a few years. The truck is all original unmolested aside from the previous owner pulled out the bucket seats for one of his builds. The owner before him was going to replace the timing chain and rebuild the carb. It was in a fender bender which bent up the front bumper, grill and passenger fender. The damaged passenger fender has been replaced. I have a WTB thread for a passenger in matching color or medium olive color and I can have a dark olive stripe added later. I would really like to keep it with the original paint.
Here's a pic of the damaged side, the good side is against the wall. The spid. Cannot wait to get this on the road. |
