Re: My build. Project Karma. 71 stepside.

I just read through the whole thread and you're doing some good work. It should be a blast to drive. I really liked how the exhaust was run from the headers. I even printed out a couple of the pics. Then disappointed later when you said you cut it out. Could you be more specific about the problem you had there? I liked the little covers you put on the heater shroud bolts. I'm thinking of just using vacuum line plugs.

I also bought the lokar shifter rod, but haven't used it yet. If it's anything like the cable set ups for adjustment you need to set the tranny in it's lowest gear, then put the shifter in that setting, then install the rods and adjust it to match. You might check with Frizzle though, he used the same thing on his tahoe conversion and said it worked out great. He's running a big block also.

I'm not much of a cheerleader. I usually will post questions on a build when I have them, or I will try to answer them when I think I can help. I really don't know how some of the people here can keep up with so many threads or forums and post everywhere. I must be a slow reader, cause I can barely find the time to keep up with the projects I follow now.

Monroe used to be in my territory when I lived out there. I'm a boiler inspector and lived in Marysville for a while (rental) and bought a place on Camano Island (1997-2000). I liked the scenery out there, but it wasn't home for me. I just could not get used to the overcast sky.

All i need to do is weldin in one of those flex pipes and it will be just fine..Could you be more specific about the problem you had there? Mine doesnt seem to want to stay in park. ahaha.. I havent messed with that much lately.. I go through spurts of wanting to do body work, then mechanical work, then more body... Back and forth.. Im in a body work mode now.

Ya, big centerlines. Im going with black. I have done everything myself. I didnt build the motor or do the sandblasting, but thats it.. I almost have the bed finished. I used the featherfill for the first time. THAT STUFF IS COOL....

OMG. Stuff is friggin AWESOME. Basically i did my body work, shaped it with 40 grit, roughed it in with 80. I then put on 3 or so coats of featherfill on the areas i needed and went back with a DA with 220, then with 400. its SOOOO smooth and nice. Stuff sprays very well and you can put it on fairly thick if you need be... Works very well for those rust pits that you get. So much easier to use then just metal glazing to fill the scratches....

Re: My build. Project Karma. 71 stepside.

Damn, paint is expensive... WIth the metal glaze, rage gold, gallon of featherfill, 1.5 gallons of epoxy, basecoat, clear coat... IT adds up FAST. That doesnt include sandpaper, which you use a TON OF. Paint thinners, plastics and what not.

I spent 400 last week, and today i spent another 400 or so on the base and clear....

All the little things add up when doing one of these projects.. Holy cow.

All my neighbors are cool. Never once had an issue.... No smell really...

Stuff is called ALSLINER.com It was 90 bucks shipped for a gallon... Now, you need to have a special gun for it.. Its only 40 bucks or so, and you desperatly need a big compressor cause that gun is just huge and runs the WHOLE TIME. There are definetly tips and tricks on how to get it on right.

First time i used it i just pulled the trigger and i went through a gallon SUPER QUICK.... Then i read the instructions and saw you can adjust your flow by just pulling the trigger lightly and it gives you a more linex type look... they also have a flattening agent so it would match linex identically.. i like the shine though.... Im not using it to keep damage out of the bed from hauling stuff, just my kids.... I love this stuff..

The light pic with flash even shows less.... I did it in the garage.. All the horizontals have some dirt in em.. Going to wetsand it out tonight and maybe put a polish on it and see how it looks. A paint job is only as good as the final color sand in my opinion... right now it looks like a wet black mirror with some dirt in it. ahaha...

I will do a real good close up pic before and after to see how it comes out. For quite a few years i used to work part time at a body shop wetsanding and polishing all the cars... Glas i have that experience... But to be honest, i have never done a black car. Dark blues and metalics, but never just SOLID black...

That's experience I really wish I had right now. Back in high school, I spent 6 out of 7 hours a day of my senior year in the ind. arts dept. Auto body was offered, but I was doing mechanical, welding, machine tool, etc. There just were not enough hours in the day for me, or I would have done that too.

Since your doing it yourself in the garage, maybe build a plastic tent around it with a fan for a little positive pressure to keep the dust down. It looks very good so far.
