Re: Project Where'd The Money Go

Mike, thanks for letting us borrow the hinges. It proved it was not the hinges. We'll get them back to you very soon. We are now lining up several shops to give us some estimates for customizing the hood. In the meantime, here are some pics of the truck out in the sun. Oh, and the new glass is in it too! Yay.

Re: Project Where'd The Money Go

OK, brought it home on Friday. Here are some pics of it coming home. Hood is still an issue, but working on finding a fabricator that actually wants to work. Have had some say they are interested and even one that came and looked at it, but haven't received any estimates yet.

And finally, threw the 22s on it. I know they will not be to everyone's tastes, but we are happy for now. Eventually, we may break the bank with some custom rims, but for now, these will do! The backs tuck nicely and we imagine the fronts will too once some weight added to the front.

Seeing your wife and dad so involved made me think, I love it when my wife helps and gets into it, makes me feel pretty lucky, Saturday night at Jay Cruise night she got all dressed up "looking pretty hot" in my opinion and stood right beside me in clouds of smoke from the burn out contest !!!i looked over and thought man i really scored !!

Hahaha. Yeah, I definitely got lucky having a Dad willing to do this project with me (not to mention finance half of it) and a wife that wants to get out there and wrench with us as well! She can't wait to bolt the 'pretty stuff' on!

Re: Project Where'd The Money Go

Well, back to small updates again since the big 'wow factors' are done for now! Here's some pics of our results and method for brushing the aluminum triangles that go with the one piece window kit.

We'll hopefully mount the Billet Specialties mirrors to them next and get them installed.

And here's some pics of the truck all tucked in for bed (Noah Block It car cover)

Thanks, rtbatchelder!

We've run into a road block at the moment so kinda frustrated, but hope to start providing some more updates again soon.

The darn hood is becoming a major thorn in our sides. It's hard to find any customizers willing to even come look at it, let alone give us a legitimate bid. The best we've gotten so far is a shot in the dark bid. I'm planning to try to take the hood off the hinges over the next weekend or so and see how it fits. That way we can tell if the problem is the hinges or the fenders.

She's not fittin' so well! I've been meaning to attach some pics so here's the ones that best show the issues. I'm going to try loosening the hinges after I tape off the fenders, grill, and cowl, and see if I can get anything better out of it this weekend. Then if that doesn't work, hinges all the way off to see how it sits in there. The hood that was on it when we took it to the body shop definitely fit better than this repop does.

Sits really high here

This gap is way too wide

Hoping by moving it back an 1/8" or so may fix both of these issues

It hits the grille here.

Yeah, that's what it looks like to us too. Hoping a hingeless hood will tell the true tale. I'm really hoping its all in the adjustment but I just don't see it.

Re: Project Where'd The Money Go

Nice update with the wheels and all! Sorry to see your still fighting the aftermarket hood. Probably dumb question at this juncture, but, what if you found a nice original hood and had it painted to match? There was a place over there in nw AR that had tons of hoods. Just think you are going to drop some serious $$$ if you have to get the custom fab hood? I know it will hurt either way, just a thought. Probably no chance you had any of that paint left over? Good luck!

I do have paint left - enough to paint one more hood so good there. I like the idea of finding an original, so may end up having to do that. Thanks for the ideas, Mike. It gets hard to think when mind is clouded by anger and frustration.

I really appreciate it Mike! My plan is to try my aftermarket hood on Sunday without the hinges at all to see how the hood fits with no hinge constraints. If it still looks like crap, I may very well take you up on it. I've got a plan devised to convert my canoe trailer into a hood transporter just in case.

Also, if anyone reading this thread could take a straight on shot of the area where your passenger fender and hood are supposed to come together (within a 1/4"), that would help a ton. Pretty much like this picture as seen above:
