Re: Harpie's 71 SWB 5.3LS build

I just read through your build and man you did a great job. Which model aaw wiring harness did you use? I'm installing one in my dad's truck right now that is more of a generic version but still has the 67-72 connections on it

Thanks man! I used the classic update kit specific to 67-72 and it is a very nice kit I would recommend it to anyone. It had everything needed for ls type engine update etc. made my swap very easy.

Harpie, great looking truck and nice progress your making.

If your referring to the one on the tank itself it came on the tank. You can get them from Boyd welding.

Re: Harpie's 71 SWB 5.3LS build

Little update. Got the interior finished up mostly. Kick panels, the speakers mounted in the cab corners, amp and sub installed and I went with 69-70 door panels didn't want woodgrain and I liked them better. Oh and shoulder belts I sure like how nice they went in.

I can take one but currently don't. And I got them from eBay and they don't have the gm buckle. I'm very happy with them seem like nice quality.

Well I have about 350 miles on her now and finally went over and had the tail pipes and tips put on today. Those dual magnaflows with nothing behind them was deafening! Last time I had it on this lift me and a buddy pushed it in.

Got the vintage air all charged up today. Used the gm compressor that came on my donor engine and it works just as it should. The ac will run you out of the cab so will be nice for those hot summer months.

Re: Harpie's 71 SWB 5.3LS build

Well set off on Friday for a road trip. Bout 200 miles and she ran great. I'm a little worried my posi rearend is having issues. When I turn and back up I can feel the truck jerk and I can hear it making a loud clunk clunk clunk sound. It's loud enough people can hear it and give ya funny looks. So may hafta have that looked into. But other than that all is good!

I agree! It's tight and no slack and it isn't howling. It's like it doesn't want to let the thing slip. I have the proper additive and it's full so who knows. I'm no rearend guy I have always let folks who know what they are doing work on them.

Re: Harpie's 71 SWB 5.3LS build

It has the updated z type strings that hold better than the old coil spring type. Will lock up and stay locked they slip a lot less.
