Re: Carolina K10, 1979 Reg cab short bed.

So this is how she will sit in the garage until the mounts get here.

Here is the passenger side mount.

And the driver side which I had to remove the bolts.

Even if I were to re drill the holes the drive train would still be crooked and cocked to the side. With the amount of work involved to make this work I would rather just order the right brackets and be done with it.

With the new brackets the engine will move forward and up from the stock location so I will have plenty of room by the fire wall.

These were the plates I initially bought. These are not designed for the clam shell mounts despite in the ad it says 60s through 90's cars and trucks. These are for the older 3 bolt style. I could get one mount in but the other side would be off by about and inch and a half.

I spoke to a rep at DD and these are the ones I ordered. I got them with black powder coat and it came out to be $130.49 shipped to the door.

Thanks man! I am just struggling whether to use drawings another member sent me to make my own or drop the $$ on the dingos. That $130 could be used elsewhere ya know!

Thanks!! That is good to know. I plan on making some like the ones I drew up. My friend at work has a plasma cutter and he is going to cut me a set out this evening. Hopefully they will work. Otherwise Ill be going with the dirty dingos like you.

Let me know how it goes. The dirty dingo mounts eliminate the actual sbc brackets entirely. And if all else fails you can always sell those brackets to someone who needs them.

Will do.

That is one reason I like the dirty dingos, eliminates clamshells and they are slotted for adjustability.

Wow all these people from the carolinas!! The truck is coming along great!! Sorry I bombarded your thread with questions and what not.

Just hard to find someone who is currently doing a LS swap in a 4x4 close to my year of truck.

I did notice however that you put silicone/rtv all the way around the knock sensor plug, I thought you were only supposed to do about 75% of it to form more like a dam than actually completely rtving the entire thing.

No problem man that's why I posted a thread. Yeah I went over kill on the rtv. Those sensors are $50 a peice and the intake sits off of the plenum so if they come up and you pressure wash the motor water can get down into the valley's and corrode the sensor. I figured I'd rather put a little extra rtv then have to dig back in there in half a year to replace the sensors.

Re: Carolina K10, 1979 Reg cab short bed.

Atleast your making progress. It won't be long it will be ready for some sandy beach action. Although last time I was down at Carolina beach they weren't letting people out on the beach. Don't know why. Funny story years ago, years ago I bought an '85 4Runner solid axles, but had a carb. My cousin and I took it to Carolina beach. It was running on three cylinders before we left and I knew it. We chugged on down there and had a blast tooling around. We decided that all these guys were going out on the beach why don't we. So we go down to Fort Fisher and go out on the beach there, and almost get stuck right in the soft sand on the access point. So luckly I was smart enough to get the thing turned around and get it out of there. People in the Jeeps were passing us by. Nobody stopped to help a couple old rednecks stuck in the sand. We had fun though. Took it out on the fairy and really went all over. A few lessons here, no bald tires and make sure you've got all four squirrels wound up....

Next weekend can't come soon enough. I've been working over l time at my not so new job and the two days I get off each week have been filled up with Military training... my life as of the past 2 months is work, sleep, repeat... meals get squeezed in while I'm at work... Got plenty of play money again but no time to play... motor mounts got here a couple of days after I ordered them but I haven't had a chance to get to my buddy Warrens house.

Also he was in a bad wreck yesterday and a lady totaled his 1979 Nissan 280z.. what a waste. He's okay with minor bruises and was taken to the hospital for a check up. Going to ride over to his house early next week to check up on him.

Re: Carolina K10, 1979 Reg cab short bed.

Yesterday ended up being a pretty good day. Went to a local junk yard and found some stuff at an awesome deal.

I found 2 instrument clusters both with great circuit boards and both with the quartz clock. The complete air filter assembly with MAF sensor. A cool analog phone amongst other things.

Stock air cleaner setup

Cool thing about the air box is when I checked inside... it's got a brand new filter!!!! Little scores like this add up over the course of a build. That's an extra $10 I can use on something else.

Re: Carolina K10, 1979 Reg cab short bed.

Finally got some time and an extra set of hands to set the motor down once and for all. Had some paint casualty but nothing I can't touch up... the only problem I have with where it is right now Is that the oil pan is resting on the crossmember.. Luckily those motor mounts are adjustable so tomorrow morning I'll try and adjust them back a couple of inches..

Here is the clearance issues I was talking about.

This was the angle needed to get everything lined up... didn't realize the jack had shifted when I was positioning the cherry picker.

Re: Carolina K10, 1979 Reg cab short bed.

Good luck. My Dirty Dingo mounts were hitting the cross member in the exact same spot. It seems like I slid the motor almost as far back as it would go.

Did you make any modifications to the tranny crossmember?
Did you have to move it forward/back to make up for the difference in length, if any?

Re: Carolina K10, 1979 Reg cab short bed.

You might just try spacing the motor up a little with some thick washers.

I'm going to just unbolt the engine and start over. I've been at it for the past 2 hours and I can't get it to slide any more back. I haven't messed with the crossmember yet. My focus right now is getting this motor lined up. What does the clearance look like now that you've slid it back?

That's another option. The mounts came with two washers one of them being a lock washer and that's not enough. I'm going to try sliding it back some more and if it doesn't work washers and a hammer will.

I've made a little progress though!!!

So close I can feel it. Pulled the motor back out and I'm about 1/8th of an inch away from what I need. Going to out more washers between the bracket and the motor and I'll see if that'll do the trick.

Wait a minute. Maybe I am confused but you used the correct dirty dingo mounts and it still isnt right or needs modification?

I am shocked that the $130+ swap mounts don't make it just go right in like it should.

I was going to order myself a set on monday but now I am worried. I have a 87 single cab long bed 4x4.

I'm going to try one last adjustment... something is not right and It has to be on my end. Lots of people have used the DD mounts with no problem so something is out of wack. There is an adjustment where the motor mount bolt goes through and I'm going to try to adjust that. I'll post an update with pictures later when I get to my hotel at Carolina beach.

Rusty I'll take pictures
