Re: my 50 build... why not?

Long time since an update.. Now I should really be able to get the ball rolling on things! Hoping for startup in the next month or two!!!!

V bands and the headers

Kinda a crude turbo mount for the moment.

Both 2.5" pipes ran to the back.

Still need to make up the kick ups to the turbo, then cut the wastegate pipes in, then get all my couplers on and done! We ran out of gas... Gaaay.

Cold side plumbing from turbo to right inner fender well.

A few more...

The pipe is just resting. I need to make a few mounts and hangers yet. Here it goes from 3"-3.5"

I just thought it was pretty cool how there was no filler rod used.

Re: my 50 build... why not?

Thanks Jamie. Yeah my buddy has been tigging process piping for 9 years.. Looks pretty awesome.

Not really an update, but water pump is ordered and back ordered till July 11th. Damnit.

And I pushed it outside to clean the garage.

Re: my 50 build... why not?

Looks great. Question? What are you doing for oil supply for the turbo?

Re: my 50 build... why not?

Oil supply will be tapped into the factory little adapter right above the oil filter. Then the return, I will be using turbowerx scavenge pump and returning to the valve cover.

Re: my 50 build... why not?

Well, haven't updated anything for a while. Trans got pulled, the snout was just too long for the spacer, and just too short without, so I sent it back and had a little extension welded on. Fits great now. Got all my piping ran, welded, and fitted. Bov is on, gates and divided merge is on and done, exhaust is done. Only thing left exhaust wise is flex sections, then wrapping the headers and mid pipes.

I'm in the middle of a move, so I had to get the truck in one piece before I was able to fire it up, but tax time is coming, so all the hoses and fittings needed will be ordered along with a driveshaft. Anyone have a preference? It's about 64.5". It's LONG. Lol.

Also, picked up a trans older with a fan, made a switch panel for fuel 1,2, boost 1,2, 2 step, line lock, t brake, and one to switch between the two with the power coming off my shifter button. Water pump pulley is getting anodized and should be done this week, made a fpr mount on the front of the intake under the carb and removed all the red anodizing.

Here's a few pictures.

Shouldn't be a whole lot left! After loading and unloading this on a trailer, I quickly found out im going to need to possibly relocate the wastegates. They hang down pretty low. But, still about 2" above the bottom of the driveshaft loop.

Re: my 50 build... why not?

Haven't been on here in a while.

It runs and drives!!!

https://www.facebook.com/chanteljean...5484263688868/

I ended up getting the carbon fiber pstds shaft. 68" long. Lol.
Derale trans cooler with fan with -8 lines,
Derale radiator fan and dual stage controller,
-10 fuel feed and return, -6 to all 4 corners of the carb,
Probably a lot more things I can't think of currently.

Did the startup ect, and ended up putting arou pnd 100 miles on it before snow hit. Started cruising around in just 91 octane just to get things loose, and it was just too rich. Made it half and half with 91/e85, and holy cow. 4-6 lbs of boost and it left stripes at 30. Lol.

I dropped the oil, threw in some fresh stuff, and now I have a small to do list before winter gets over. I'm hoping to get the bed wood finished and in before I drive it again. Water leak with the wegner steam port adapters to adress, cover all the wiring with split loom, finish the small amount of wiring I have with blinker indicators, and speedo and tach. I need to make new bumper brackets.

Also, I still have to come up with something for an air filter. I'm thinking my only option will be something like boostedbowtie has.

I noticed during the test drive that the trans runs hot and keeps getting hotter. I wired the cooler fan just to stay on for the test drive, and it still got up to 230+, and I had to pull over. Kinda scared to dig into that deal.

Here's the only pictures I've snapped.

Here's what keeps me distracted nowdays. Just started going to east/south coast with it. Kinda fun, and a waaaay different lifestyle. Lol

Thanks guys. Yeah, I couldn't ask for someone more supportive of my hobby. She's even got the pickup tattoo into part of her sleeve. Lol, she even wants an old nova. She's into it so much, that we're going to build a huge pole barn and live in half of it. Works for me!

Re: my 50 build... why not?

Yeah, there will be more. I'm getting the bed wood stained and to varnish come mo day when the temps rise up a bit. Changed the oil, checked things over, and made up a small to do list before it gets too nice out. Pricing out new wheels and tires as well as a set of slicks. Nothing real fun happening yet, but I have this week off, so hopefully I'll get some done.

Re: my 50 build... why not?

Well, bed is done and in, new wheels and front tires, suspension adjusted a little, trans cooler moved up front and added a deeper trans pan. now we're down to tuning and little bugs. I have a 30 second timer I'm throwing on the relay with the turbo oil pump so it stays on for 30 seconds when key is shut off. I need deeper center caps for the front wheels. With the new tires on the front, I had to raise the front about 1.5" and it still might not be enough with the new trans pan. It's just about as low as the front crossmember, and that's only about 3-4" off the ground. Then, I still need to sand and biff the body line up, and cowl forward. Other than that, it's wrapping up to be a fun summer!

Also, I just bought this little guy...

Thanks guys! I'm not a chassis guy, but I've done a few chassis projects. Yes, I'm on yellowbullet, but that doesn't ring a bell. I'm 3qtrlbs over there.

Long time ago.. Question.. Have you ran in those Mickey Thompson tires? Do they hook? I heard they don't hook well. I'm not racing mine nor putting slicks. I am curious though. Thanks again for sharing all your pics .

Re: my 50 build... why not?

I've only ran them about 100 miles so far. They are 29x15x15's. I'm running so rich right now, it's acting like there's a rev limiter on the motor, all the way Down to 9.7s:1 AFR, and only on wastegate spring pressure at 5 lbs of boost, and I can haze the tires pretty easy at a 30-40mph roll. So no, I don't think they hook very well. Lol

Re: my 50 build... why not?

Well, I have had it to 2 car shows aND about 600 miles. And man its fun. I have it pretty well dialed in on only on 5.5 lbs, and have turned it up to 8.5 lbs, but the tires just stand no chance even at 5.5 lbs, so I need to pick up a set of drag radials or slicks and see what happens. This last weekend was goodguys in lincoln nebraska and I couldn't help myself both Friday and Saturday night. I beat on it pretty hard and didn't have any issue.

I thought I had a fuel pump issue, but I found out the slop in my cheap POS steering column ignition switch has two positions for turning on my ignition accessories. So, my gauges and turn signals still work, but it the ignition starts jiggling, and shuts off the relays to the fuel pumps, trans cooler, and the turbo oil pump. So that sucks and I'm not sure how to deal with that yet.

I had to change my transmission oil pan to a short style as low as everything is, and it still stayed under 190* cruising around in stop and go traffic in 97* weather.

So, other than not having AC in the truck, I have no complaints. So much fun! I had a group of guys and my friends in the lincoln car club egging me on when I was leaving goodguys, so the nice big open parking lot now has a bunch of black circles. Lol

I found one guy I liked so far for doing the interior, and one more I want to talk with. Not sure how soon that will happen, but it will get rewired a bit in the cab, get dynomat everywhere, different gauges, a stereo, and something different with the steering column/wheel. I'll post up a few pictures when I get around my computer.
