Re: 56 pro touring build

This is where this project is going from a stance point of view. Our will be more focused on performance and not so much the goodies like this one has. By the way, this black truck is for sale on ebay (1958). I know, it has four eyes, but I think that is is cool anyways.

Fesler Built. I saw this on their website a while back. They do some awesome work, but they're outta my price range.

Re: 56 pro touring build

Wanted to do the round bed corners. I bought a 1 3/4 round tube that was bent into a U and cut in half, one for each side of the bed. I think it was 16 gauge or so. I measured the tube side on my bed first. I know that other guys mentioned that theirs was a 1 5/8. Cut the bed corner off and started to fit the corner. I ended up splitting the vertical column at the bend and started to fold in each side a little bit at a time. I decided to take 1/8 sheet and put in into the channel that runs from the bottom of the fender to the top. It is the one where the bolt that connects the pivot for the tailgate. Then split the top of the tube scribed a piece of sheet and tig welded it into the tube. Now to fit it into the bed.

Re: 56 pro touring build

its getting easier. It works well to split the tube and mate it that way. Thanks for the motivating words!

I can see how that would be much better than just putting the flat on top of the tube.
great work!!

Re: 56 pro touring build

Any new updates on this build? Love what you're doing and looks to be one of the first wild pro touring 56's i've ever seen! I'm new to this forum, but am building a 56 chevy truck myself. Unfortunately it is not pro touring but is on air ride and will be on layin' in the grass. Also it is on a 89 Dakota frame, hope to post a thread soon with some of the build pics.

Thanks

Thanks for inquiring. I think about it every day and even in my dreams. Unfortunately I just have not had any time to do anything in a while. Go into the garage and look at it for a few minutes once in a while. Hopefully closer to the end of the year.

I love a low lying truck. Cant beat the look. How is it working putting it on a Dakota frame?

I definitely know that feeling. Mine has been in the build process for many years. The dakota frame has been suprisingly easy. It was all the same dimensions, so just a little fabrication here and there. I think I attached a pic but not for sure.

Can't wait to see some more updates on your ride!

Wow. Looks like the dakota frame worked well. Truck looks GREAT! Do you have a build on the site?

No build on the site yet, but am planning on doing one within the next month. Thanks! It was one of the best "free" things i've ever been given! lol

Re: 56 pro touring build

That charger ought to give it some serious HP. I'd like to have the light weight of an LS, but when you're a big block guy, using a small block would be akin to buying a F-rd. Hope they don't edit this out for using that word.

Oh, do I have to take the bag off before I install it? I thought that it was part of it.

I did not want to take it out of the bag. It is perfectly clean now and want to keep it that way until its ready.

What tank is that?
