The paint looks killer! Great job!!

Don't get a junk yard York. Get one of the rebuilt ones off eBay. They are just a tick more, but they have all been checked out and less likely to fail. Plus you can get one already with a V-belt drive or a serpentine drive clutch. Just a thought.

Keep up the good work!

It needs a silver accent stripe I think...

Re: My 83' Crew Cab Dually project

I've been really busy the past week on everything but this truck, so not much progress, but I did get a tonneau cover mounted up today and went out for its maiden voyage since the bodydrop. All things considered, it performed fairly well. The exhaust is really loud; it sounds great outside, but rattles my teeth in the cab. I'm considering adding a few feet of tailpipe to get the exit midway under the bed instead of at the back of the cab. Disconnecting one of the tanks and running only 10 gallons is much more manageable, but I can't keep my fingers off the switches, so I really need to get after the York. And apparently I have some kind of a grounding issue with the left front lights. The headlights are really dim and the left front blinker doesn't blink very fast. I'm going to take my boy to school in it tomorrow morning and take it to work...

Oh...and I picked up a new daily on Saturday.

Re: My 83' Crew Cab Dually project

Drove it to work today. Had a lot of fun watching people stop and scratch their heads (I live in an area where lifted trucks are the norm). Even with the interior in pieces, it's really nice to be able to finally drive it.

It's good to be different. Who really wants to blend in with everyone else.

That's the exact reaction I get. West Texas is all about the lifted trucks, but it is fun to have someone weave their way through traffic just to get a glimpse and give you a thumbs up. Makes it all worth while!

Re: My 83' Crew Cab Dually project

Well, I had fun cruising around town for a couple weeks. I was able to hit up a couple of cruise-in kinda shows and was fairly well received...for an area with absolutely nothing like this truck ever.

And then....a small tragedy struck. Some dude turning around in my driveway shmucked the front of my truck. He said it was so low that he couldn't see it in his mirror. At least he was gracious enough to knock on my door and offer his insurance info. I had the adjuster inspect it yesterday and he stroked me a check for the damages. I'll be getting a brand new grill and hood. All in all, not much damage and really not that big of a deal I guess, but it's a little setback since I have to wait for parts to be shipped now. I've got a show coming up 5/21, so I'm crossing my fingers that everything is here before then with time to repaint. LMC says my right headlight door is on back order.

I had hoped to go with a billet grille, but after researching, I found that I'd have to buy a new grille for $100, cut it apart and THEN buy the billet one for another $250. I decided to go with an aftermarket all chrome Gmc grille with no script instead.

I'm also looking into my options for the dash now. The pad is cracked like all of them are...and it's brown. Has anyone had success with the dash caps? Or fiberglassing the original pad? I hate to drop $350+ if there's a viable alternative.

Sorry to hear about that! Maybe instead of a dash pad just go get a different dash? Maybe a new one out of a 15' or 16'??? Or maybe a 61???

Truck looks great. You really cranked this project out. Nice work. Sucks about the fender bender but at least the guy stepped up.

Re: My 83' Crew Cab Dually project

Waiting for parts...took a trip to the pull a part yesterday in search of some new seating. I found a mint set of leather buckets out of some kind of custom dodge minivan. The tall bases completely unbolt, so I should be in good shape if I fab up some mounts. Unfortunately, I didn't think to snap any pics, so I'll grab some once I start working the seats in.

Decided my arm needed some fresh ink...so I took the drop up to see a buddy and he hooked me up.

So...sound deadening; I've always used dynamat, but I know there's better stuff out there now. What are you guys using and is it good for sound and heat? My exhaust is really close to the floor now and my feet are melting...

I used Sky High Car Audio sound deadening. For my floor and back wall of my truck. I will be using it on the inside of the doors as well. Comes in 80 mil and 120 mil thicknesses. As far as how it does with exhaust heat, I don't notice it.

Started working over my door panels in preparation for the new seats going in.

And my new grille finally showed up. Photobucket is down AGAIN. Ugh.

Love the dually, its nice to be different isn't it? Where I live everybody has new trucks. Also like the flat green accent looks great. I miss my dually all the time.

"Replacing all of the window run channels...not fun!"
I hear ya on that! just got my rear doors done and am waiting for new (used) front doors to get here so I can do them. The cool part about new window channels is how nice the windows go up and down now. I dont know how yours were but on mine the old glass channels wouldnt stay in the track in the lower part of the door and the window would just wedge in as it tried to go down. Now I know why my suburban windows wont work. Love your crew!! Cant wait to see the finished interior.

Re: My 83' Crew Cab Dually project

Thanks guys.

I finished the rest of them up today. I really like this suede upholstery; it stretches and molds so much better than the vinyl I've used on other projects. I was planning to dye all of the interior cladding to match the door panels, but after doing these panels, I think I'll just wrap those in suede too.

So....I need some opinions; black or tan carpet? I can't decide...

As much as I want to say black because it won't show stains as easily, I think the tan would look perfect.
