Re: Daverods 52

If the 700r4 doesn't work out let me know, I have 3 of them laying around. They "ran when pulled" but they will NEED a rebuild.

Fun man. Thats what I'm thinking about this one. For now I just want it to get everything where it needs to be. The cores gotta be worth 100? Who knows it might work.

Re: Daverods 52

dave, i hate to be the barer of bad news, but that bag kit isnt going to work well for you.
the bags are not centered over the bars... by having them off to the side, it puts a "twist" into the bars.
you're only going to get a few thousand miles before you need new bushings on the lower control arms.. the twisting makes them prematurely wear.
if you overload the truck, and drive it like that, you can even twist the arms.

I really wish jackasses would stop selling people kits like that... they NEVER work out well, and it ends up costing people money.
if you modify it so the bag is directly over the bar (meaning you'll have to sink a bag mount into your frame) it will work great... not hard, but you shouldnt be forced to modify a kit like that.

in anycase, it needs to be fixed.. atleast you didnt weld the upper bag brackets on yet.

Re: Daverods 52

Thanks for your input Dude. We'll see. I kinda knew that. For everyone that says they suck there's someone else says they have them and have no problem? I'm going with it the way it is. Maybe? Just remember to tell me "I told you so" if I ever have any problems with it. I do like how they put the bag in the frame. It's hard for me to see how that arm can twist very much. It's hooked to the axle on one end, the bag mount is'nt very far from the other end? I'll never carry any weight. I'm sure I'll get bored one of these days and go buy some 5"? metal pipe.

Re: Daverods 52

If I center the bag I would remove the crossmember? Maybe these bags are just really big (firestone). Going to be some big pipe. Would the bag stay in the same spot?

Re: Daverods 52

where did you steal those pics from. I've talked to people say that the kit you have twist. But then i've talked to people that are running them on their s10 say they haven't had any problems out of it. I really like the set up from those pics. I've got all the stuff to run it like that. Send me a link to the thread.

After really looking at that set up from the pics. It doesn't have a notch in it. And also I think he's gonna have problems running the stock tank because of how far the bags stick out.

http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=398605 Ya who knows about the twist thing. I've read a lot of stuff about it. I've yet to hear someone who had the set up say it did'nt work. Lots of hate out there.

It works all right, but isn't the best way engineering wise. People in the automotive, or custom business is always slamming other peoples ideas, and the way they do things. A bad mechanic or bad quality of work is bad though.
No hate here. We all love each other.

Also seems that it lets the bag compress too much.

Re: Daverods 52

Here is a link to something you can do
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=387472

I am sure we all know Yaril's work on here. I really like this set up and he seems to bag everything, so I am sure this would work out well.

Not sure if the stock tank will fit with the bags on the inside, I believe I asked him before and he said it fits. but anyway, by the looks of it, you can just mount the bags on the inside with little mods. But inside or outside, is that going to be inferior to centered under the frame?

I also like the pics you found.

Re: Daverods 52

Finished welding my notches. Guess I need to put my bed on so I can figure out how short I need to cut my frame. I'm pretty sure it's to long. These rims I have suck the offset is wrong they don't fit on the front and they hit my bags in the rear. errr.

Just looking thru youre thread and noticed some of my pics. For my set up i'm not using the stock gas tank and will be installing bump stops from the frame to the axle, so no worries about bags compressing to much or clearance issues. The reason i but my bags under the frame was to gain tire clearance with 20x10 on back.

Bump stops that's works. I like your bag idea.

Re: Daverods 52

That sucks about your bags. I would also tell you if your gonna run those bags have plenty of room, because they will ballon. Or go with a slam bag.

Re: Daverods 52

Just move the lower mount to move the bag forward. Then weld on the upper bag mount to match it. Or get a smaller tire

Re: Daverods 52

Cut my frame from 122 to 116. Just cut 6 out of it at the factory seam. Ordered some rear bags and some cross members for my bed. My old cross members looked like I could have used them for a bow. Also ordered a cam and some push rods for my engine. Went to the junk yard and walked around in the mud looking for some rims.

Re: Daverods 52

I have 4 Centerline look a like 15" rims for sale. They need cleaning up & polishing. They are 5x4 3/4 bolt pattern, and will fit the S-10 bolt pattern. 150 bucks and you arrange pick up from the Brown Truck. I just sold those 8 lug wheels I had. I shrink wrapped them in pairs. And UPS came and picked them up. I'll have to have the tires taken off and buy more shrink wrap. That's why I'm asking $150. Let me know if your interested.

thats how i mounted my bags, won't get as much lift as being on the bar. It just gets them out of the way for the wheels and tank

no, thats a 3 link with bag on axle.
could be their wishbone and upper crossmember, but I cant tell for sure. everyone makes similar looking stuff...

the SD (and other) 5 links have a second set of lower bars with the bags on those bars.

Re: Daverods 52

SD has a 5 link built just like this. If you look at the lower tabs on the axle is has bolt holes in it. That's where the lower bars for the rear would bolt to and go back to the rear of the frame and bold again. Seems like the bag is too far away from the axle to be a BOA set up.
