Re: The 1960 - 1966 Chevrolet & GMC Pickups Factory Correct Restoration Thread
I was at a swap meet in Nashville last month & scored several '60-66 factory brochures. I've been in the process of documenting pics of each page so that I can share with those who may be interested. Below I'm linking to my photo albums with the various brochure pics:

Re: The 1960 - 1966 Chevrolet & GMC Pickups Factory Correct Restoration Thread
that hub cap post is really nice!
"1966 Half ton Nub hubcaps NOS GM Compared to reproduction. Bowtie is considerably shorter top to bottom. Stamping is more squared off." any ideas why the bowtie is not correct? just poor design, or do they have to do that because of the trademark?

I talked to one of the guys in purchasing for the Truck Shop about that. He said "it doesn't matter" , he went on to say, they didn't want to spend the time and money to fix what most people don't know or care enough about. There was one more company making these reproduction hubcaps but I think "They" quit making them 10 or so years ago. Owner has since passed away . He told me that ALL of his products came back from Taiwan to meet his approval . He was licensed by GM. His Bowtie was 98% right on but the background color was more orange than red . I have a couple of these also. He also made the 1960 Chrome 1/2 and 3/4 ton caps and they were the only ones that would stay on the clip rims. I've lost two from a set, of the cheaper brand, off my 60. You can feel the difference when you install them . There again the bowtie is off on the cheaper sets.

Re: The 1960 - 1966 Chevrolet & GMC Pickups Factory Correct Restoration Thread
Great pics & references for this thread! I honestly have no clue if my chrome '66 hubcaps are original or repros, so I'll have to check them out more closely.

Wow! Incredibly thorough breakdown, 60-66. Thanks for taking the time and effort to do these comparisons.

Re: The 1960 - 1966 Chevrolet & GMC Pickups Factory Correct Restoration Thread
Thank you Jake . That's partially correct. The hubcap you posted is the same in design , yes. For 1960 AND 1961 GMCs , GMC grouped both years together as the "N" series . Both 1960 and 1961 received the same version hubcap with a paint change of a blue a center and blue outer ring accent. This is spelled out in the GMC parts books , dealer literature and data books. GMC did many things different than Chevrolet even though they are subtle differences , they make it a little tough sometimes.

You can see both Painted and Chromed in this picture. I though about changing the color to blue, but the red matches the emblem as well, so it was a coin toss.

Re: The 1960 - 1966 Chevrolet & GMC Pickups Factory Correct Restoration Thread

I put a new carb on(1bbl rodchester) and new fuel line along with a new sending unit. I also put in new plugs and points, cap, rotor, timed it to 4 degrees advanced and it now will start takes some turning over but will start and idle but when I try driving it it wont come up to speed it just boggs down cant pull its own weight. what could be causing this? please help done all i can think of. thanks

Wrong thread for this subject. You'll probably get more views in the general 60-66 section or Engines and Drivetrain section.

Re: The 1960 - 1966 Chevrolet & GMC Pickups Factory Correct Restoration Thread
Hood Hinge and Spring Finish
Hood Hinge From research here looks like some hood hinges were silver cad, which mine looked like, weathered silver with some light rust/dirt. Also, some of the photos posted for Lambert, looked like they may have been blackish ones too??. Hood Hinge Springs Again research looks like they were kind of flat blackish, phosphate?? mine looked like this. Couple of photos of mine cleaned. Les |

Re: The 1960 - 1966 Chevrolet & GMC Pickups Factory Correct Restoration Thread
Les , From my own group of trucks and personally , every truck Ive seen, 1960-1963 is Silver Cad with silver cad bolts and 1964-1966 is gray/Black phosphate with silver cad bolts .
1963 Silver Cad hinge gray phosphate spring ![]() 1964 Lambrecht truck . You can see the contrast in this picture of the 1964 between the cad plated bolts and gray phosphate hinge. ![]()

Re: The 1960 - 1966 Chevrolet & GMC Pickups Factory Correct Restoration Thread
We've covered the paint/build order for the cab and the bed. How about the front sheet metal?
How was it all painted? Separately, then bolted together? I've never seen a good, unmolested truck: are the inner fender and core support bolts all painted, as though they were bolted together prior to painting? Grill surround? I've never paid attention to see if the flanges of the grill surround and the outer fenders are painted body color, or primer and bolted together before exterior paint. -Brad
