Not sure. Every rubber mat I've bought has been like this. Carpet goes all the way back.

Re: Chucks 72 Cheyenne Custom Camper

Today Rus came up and helped me knock out some things on my trucks. Thanks again Rus! We got the tranny cooloing lines on and the old external tranny cooler off. What a mess. We also looked for a tranny leak. Found that the bolts that come with the new pan have washers that allow fluid to seep out. I'll take the pan off and silicone the pan on and seal around the bolts.
We also took the nasty brown carpet out and I cleaned the floor. There was a plate on the drivers side. I was going to leave it for now but I think I'll pull it and put some metal down and seal around it all. This will be temporary. I'll fix it properly when the truck is redone.

Re: Chucks 72 Cheyenne Custom Camper

Square78 installed the gasket pictured. It looks like a hoss to me! Maybe they make a trans pan gasket like this. It has metal inserts around the bolt holes to set the amount of "squeeze".

This is his comment: "Its the Fel-Pro one piece silicone neoprene gasket with metal core. Its pretty much the best one you can get. You dont need to silicone 4 pieces of gasket together around the main-seals and pray it doesnt leak. Its expensive, but its worth it to not have to worry about pulling the pan again anytime soon. Summit racing has them cheap. Im in canada and they seem to retail for around $100. I got mine for $70 or so. I dont mind spending the extra to not have to worry about it."

BTW---did you thank the PO for the contribution to your license plate display? That one definitely needs to go on the wall with the background story alongside!

I'm fixing to pull it and see which state it is. I found a receipt from a Family Dollar in the truck from Wyoming. We'll see. And yes it'll go on the wall above the garage doors.

I need one of those oil pan gaskets too. I'll check into both of those. Thanks.

Re: Chucks 72 Cheyenne Custom Camper

I pulled the plate and its Nebraska! I cleaned it and hung it with the same screws that held it to the floor.

It was hiding a crater of a hole lol. I think this truck will eventually get a whole new floor.

Re: Chucks 72 Cheyenne Custom Camper

I hope so. I'm watching some on ebay that are aluminum.

I did something today that just goes against my train. I so called patched my floor. This will just keep the fumes and rain out at best. I just put some aluminum flashing and silicone down. I will replace the floor of this truck if I ever get to restore it. But for now it gets this temporary cover up.

Disclaimer: This is not how I repair my trucks normally and I wouldn't even call it a repair. lol

I'll turn these.

I'm going to get the under side tomorrow and I'll use a light from the inside of the cab to find any that I can't see.

Re: Chucks 72 Cheyenne Custom Camper

I still have one more hole to plug up on the drivers side cab. I did get my valve covers that I bought off of ebay. I still haven't gotten my gaskets though. They're on the way. I got a front bumper from a board member and cleaned it up and straightened it out some. I think I'll sand down an outer front grille that Rus gave me and try some chrome paint on it. I need to put a new master cylinder on the truck too. So a new list to add to the other.

Master cylinder
front grille
front bumper
floor patch and insulation
valve covers / gaskets
trailer wiring
oil pan / gasket

Re: Chucks 72 Cheyenne Custom Camper

I'm kinda jealous of this truck. It is a perfect driver that you can "piddle" with here and there.

Matt you can piddle on it any time you want. Don't be jealous. Lol.

I put a new master cylinder on it tonight and my son helped me bleed the brakes but one caliper on the pass. side had the bleeder break off. And the drivers side although it did bleed, It looked like water came out of the bleeder first. And the pedal doesn't feel any different. So I will get two new calipers and see how that works. I need to check the vacuum on the booster to see if its enough too.
