Re: Here's my GMC/S10 build

Yes, I used the stock s10 bushings that were on the s10. At the time I didn't know they had high speed low drag bushings available. The ones I took off the s10 weren't bad. However, if I had it to do over I would have bought some new ones (someday I plan on switching them out, as it's on my to do list.). Right off hand, I don't recall who posted a pic of them here or what brand they were. May be someone will chime in on it. They might not be needed if yours are in good shape. I just don't want my son to have to worry about bushings when I'm gone. So I'm going to swap them while I'm still able.

I'm not to sure what would happen if you didn't use bushings. I'd assume you'd end up snapping a weld without the cushion.

Re: Here's my GMC/S10 build

Hey man, I forgot to take pics while I had the rims off. I dug out my spare rim. So here's the skinny.

Rear wheel. This is with a 2wd s10 rear and 2" adapters. Just under 4" to the fender

Front wheel. 2" adapters. right at 3.5" to the fender. I do rub at full lock on the inside.

Re: Here's my GMC/S10 build

I forgot to mention. I bought my z06 combo back. Minus the 800 we donated to Toy's for Tots. My father in law gave me his old work truck. 1988 full size Chevy truck 2wd long bed. It has a crate TBI 5.7 with about 40,000 miles and rebuilt auto tranny. Any opinions on the 5.7 as far as reliability? I'd really like to keep the 2.8 in it. But I guess he'd get more cool points with a V8.
I'm looking around for a car for my wife now that I have my Z06 back.

I have an '88 with the 5.7 v8 and it's a great engine. I haven't had any problems with it other than the rear main seal, but it has 222k on it. I don't know that it's ever been rebuilt. Go for it; yer gonna like it

Re: Here's my GMC/S10 build

I haven't been in the garage for a while (been sick). My boy asked me if he could go out and work on his truck. He did a bunch of small stuff, topped off the water and oil. He was under the truck for about an hour just looking things over. He spent a good 45 min behind the wheel shifting gears and pushing on the pedals. I was having trouble with the driver side window not moving so smoothly. So I had him remove the panel and grease up the window track and adjusted the electric motor.

Re: Here's my GMC/S10 build

Wish I could get my grandson motivated to help me but all he wants to do is sit on his butt and play video games just like my ex-son in law. Hard to break bad habits once they set in. Hope you are feeling well, I thought about you this morning. I did some pro bono work to help get a Veteran ran thrift shop open. This morning was the grand opening. All the profits go to an outreach program located in the store to help Vets get the support they need. The staff are all Vets too.

Re: Here's my GMC/S10 build

Thanks for helping out the Vets. It means a lot to us. I wish I could honestly say my boy isn't into all the video game stuff. But, I'd be lying to you. He get's a couple of hours a day, then it's outside to ride his bike or motorcycle. I had to bring out the camera since he was gonna work on the truck. He's got a lot of cool ideas for it. However, they'd be better for a sports car. Now if I could just get these frags out of my head I'd be golden.

Re: Here's my GMC/S10 build

thats actually a verry nice idea , over here in the netherlands we have a few 'vets" from sarayevo and simulair places where they helped the un peaceforces
some of them are pretty shellshocked by wat they seen (they wherent alowed to intervein just help rebuilding the vilages and they witnessed some mass murdering and stuff like that ) and there been a couple of people that dealed with neighbors in a kindof disturbing way to settle a fight but there isnt a lot being done for them in those therms , after they leave the army and military here arent as whell liked as they are in the states as servers to their country more like employees of the country working a job

Re: Here's my GMC/S10 build

The 5.7 TBI is a great idea for this truck. Cheap and reliable. Looks like a carb so you could use one of those old Caddy air cleaners painted green for the vintage look. It'll sound more like a real hot rod with a V8 but with only 190hp your son shouldn't get into TOO much trouble. He can still upgrade it later if he wants because small blocks are so easy to build. Truck looks great. Keep pics comin.

I've always loved those Caddy air cleaners. Thanks for the heads up on it. I'll have to keep my eyes out for a nice "cheap" one.
Here's a pic of my two favorite girls.

From a fellow leatherneck, great job and I love the interior!!! What did you use for the material? Old cammies or do you have a source that sells it in bulk?

'58Patch- Good stuff man, thanks.

454navyss- Thanks man, and thank you for your service. It's much appreciated!

Semper Fi Devil, the material came from an EBay vendor. Same stuff our cammies are made of. Also has the EGA. Bought by the yard. Do an EBay search for marpat fabric.

I looked on ebay after I typed that reply. I am thinking of covering my door panels and the top part of the seat when I get it redone.

What size tires did you use? Was there any clearance issues in the rear as in do i need to tub my bed to make them fit?

Re: Here's my GMC/S10 build

Tires are 255/35/zr20's. I'm running a stock 2wd rear end and 2" spacers. I think I had to tub about 3"or so. With the 4wd rear and mayby 1" spacers you should be fine.
