Re: Project -underfunded - '68 shortstep/carb'd LSx/200-4r build
nice build, I would love to do something similar. Im sure its been stated but what vehicle are the headers made for? I have some stainless longtubes on my 06 silverado, and was wondering if those would work for a 67-72.

Sweet! Where's the start up video?? jk Glad to hear you got it running, that must have been a pain to pull it and install it again, I hate it when things don't go right.

My buddy at work had simaler problem. He started his but had fluctuating oil psi went from 0 to 45. He droped pan and found his oil pick up tube oring was messed up. Then he started his truck and had loud popping noise and he found a cracked spark plug. Glad everything worked out for ya.

Re: Project -underfunded - '68 shortstep/carb'd LSx/200-4r build
Do you have a list of part#s that you used to bolt up the old school tranny? I am swapping in a LQ4 when I get back from afghanistan and i want to bolt it up to my current th350 until I can find a 200-4r. Thank you! The truck looks amazing and should run like a scalded @$$ ape!! Can't wait to get mine done.

Re: Project -underfunded - '68 shortstep/carb'd LSx/200-4r build
Thanks all! Sorry for the delay, been busy with family stuff. I wanted to have it ready for Good Guys...and may have it all together by Friday...but its just too soon really. I need to shake the truck down and work out any bugs since alot has been changed.
here's a couple of low quality video's at night when we 1st got it running...I'll try to get better ones in the daylight. the "kit" for mating the 2004r to the LSx was from Scoggins-Dickey. It includes the .400 spacer, longer bolts, and a new flexplate. Don't have the number handy but I'll try to find it. It might have even been posted that info earlier in this thread? here's the required video's. I'll get better one's once I get it dialed in! startupI startupII

I might have overlooked it, but all I really wanted to confirm was that all that was needed is that flexplate kit.

Re: Project -underfunded - '68 shortstep/carb'd LSx/200-4r build
you'll also need your TV cable for both trans (350 & 200-4r)....and for the 200-4r you'll need the brackets that change the throw of the carb linkage so that the trans pressure is correct.
softballn....I told you wrong....it was Pace Performance...not S.D. Anyway, the part # is PAC-1399 and was $69. There's also Bowtie Overdrives and I'd imagine they offer something. Also....thank you for your service!

Weird request, but what is the part number of the serpentine belt you used on the engine? My 5.3 has the same set up. Thanks |

Re: Project -underfunded - '68 shortstep/carb'd LSx/200-4r build
update - The bed is on with a crude hole cut to fill the tank. Getting a trap door for now, and a marine style filler when I redo the bed. The front end is installed along with a new cowl induction hood. The interior is in with new black carpet, and I have new black carpet trim for the bottom of the doors and kick panels that I need to install.
Got the leaks in the trans fixed...and may have found another....not sure since it puked trans fluid the other day because the TB cable wasn't tight. Of course.....hammering it to 100 (yup, test driving) or so a couple of times (def. need drag radials) might have had something to do with it. Lightweight insulation and new carpet: front end going on and new stance: getting everything installed, plumbed, and wired under the hood: Wilwood adj. proportioning, Summit line lock: Power booster aluminum vacuum tank w/gauge, Painless Circuit Boss (7) air/oil separater in place of pcv stainless coolant reservior getting ready for the hood: bed going on and new stance seat in: rebuilt speedo, Autometer "Designer Black" series gauges, AEM air/fuel gauges (2), and a cheap mechanical oil pressure gauage under the dash because my Autometer electric oil pressure gauge didn't work, nor did my Holley fuel pressure gauge. B&M Mega shifter (has a fire extinguisher to the right now) seat finally goes all the way back: and the column moved in 1" new halogen headlights: and....getting the hood on and lined up halfway... front ride height under 29" with 275/60-15 tire. ...oh and I did finally notch the frame slightly for the headers on each side.

Re: Project -underfunded - '68 shortstep/carb'd LSx/200-4r build
thanks guys. yup the long term plan is to put a 5" oil, fuel, temp, and oil press. "quad" gauge where the fuel gauge is, and 3+" tach in the center hole, leaving all 4 bottom holes empty. 2 slots will remain with the 2 widebands, on the other side I plan on fuel pressure and trans temp...or oil temp. I'll replace the speedo too, with a 120mph version.

Re: Project -underfunded - '68 shortstep/carb'd LSx/200-4r build
I know......I need to take it to a warehouse parking lot or something after I get the carb dialed in. It has no problem spinning my 275/60-15's in 1st and 2nd...maybe even 3rd once I get things right.

Re: Project -underfunded - '68 shortstep/carb'd LSx/200-4r build
had a good little drive today. needs a bigger fuel pump...just not getting enough pressure. Trans makes some noise but works great. Builder said to bring it in, may be in the converter. Puked a little trans fluid again...gonna have to find out whats up with that. Anyway....here's a few more pics.
welded in a plug, added some filler and a little primer. It'll do until body and paint. ...and the new temporary way to fillup. I'll be adding a trap door until some new wood goes in, after paint. Then it'll be a polished marine style filler/cap. new altitude: decided what'll be going next to the shifter...... and the engine bay the way it looks now with hood on

Re: Project -underfunded - '68 shortstep/carb'd LSx/200-4r build
that was the goal....to build it so that I could beat on it and still drive it home. Hopefully things will work out that way. It still needs some "tougher" equipment but the budget couldn't support upgrading them at this time. The ultimate goal is to make it as quick and "unbreakable" as possible. I may even put a roll bar at some point...tho I don't think it'll ever be running 10's.
And thank you, I'm not sure about 1st class though with my skills vs so many "high end" builds going on around here...maybe 2nd?
