Re: Got some new wheels: Boss 338's in 20x10 and 20x8.5

Hi folks, FNG here in Virginia. I found the forum by searching on the (black) Boss 338 wheels.

I just bought this 1997 Tahoe, and from what I gather; I could have a problem trying to get the Boss 338 18x8 to fit on my front axle; correct?

I am going to do 18x8s all the way around as I plan for this truck to be a driver with a lot of rubber on each corner.

I just ordered a single 18x8 through a friend of mine & a set of 4 knock-offs. (They are only sold in a set of 4.) I plan to do some test fitting with the one wheel. I have BellTech drop spindles and drop springs, but the drop springs are coming off this week and stock spring are going back in. I don't want the raked look.

Does anyone have any more info or experience they can share? Thanks in advance!

That's correct, unless somehow you get "lucky" and have different rotors than everyone else. The design is being reworked to open up the back, but now it's been pushed back until later this month. I'd hold off until you can be sure you're getting the new design for all four corners (rather than buying two now for the back, for example, which would prevent you from rotating your tires in the future).

20's with a 45 series is plenty of meat to drive every day imo

That's also a tall combination. Many trucks, even w/just a static 5/7" drop can only go about 28" tall on the fronts which is a 245~255/40-20.

45-series rubber on 18's will work on most set-ups if 18" wheels are acceptable.

I didn't see where you listed your drop size which is why I included the 'disclaimer' that it wouldn't work @ 5/7 drops or more.

To be fair, he did say "many" trucks, not all. He also mentioned a 5/7 drop, which is more than the 4/6 you have. But more to the point, most here are working on trucks much older than your '99 and clearance may be a much more significant issue on those older trucks. (Not saying it is for sure; just pointing out a possible reason why taller tires work on your truck but may not on others.) Not arguing, just observing.

As was stated, this thread is not about fitting Boss 338's on 88-98 trucks only, which was the reason I mentioned this....

Listing a particular size as a good size to use for everyday w/o acknowledging there could be possible fit related issues causes confusion when discussing trucks built from the 60's through Y2k. My statement isn't wrong as 28" tall tires on front won't work on many trucks (including my 74 w/a 5/7-ish static drop).

Well i centered the spacer on the rotor and used a special glue, forgot the name of it, but once you bolt on the wheel the spacer goes no where. As far as tires, im running 275-40-20 on the rear and 255-35-20 in front, i still need to cut the front fenders and modify my bed to go lower when i slam the bags, but thanks for all the comments guys.

Not completely relevant, or the best picture, but my sister saw this car when she was in Asheville this weekend and snapped a pic of it. I was looking at the picture and noticed the wheels looked like Boss 338s so I figured I'd post it.
