Re: 1980 Stepside Build... My first build thread

OK - tough question for those of you who have been following my build...

When I bought this truck, I wanted it mainly for the project. Cars are a hobby of mine, and I just enjoy working on them and fixing them up. I may end up selling this truck once it is done, and I have had a chance to drive it and play with it a bit. I have been looking online for comparable trucks to get an idea what it might be worth, but haven't found anything that is close enough for me to get pricing ideas.

So what I am asking for is opinions from guys with square bodies - what do you think my truck is worth? If you were selling a truck like mine, what kind of a [price tag would you put on it? When I sold my Blazer (the teal green one) back in the 90's, it sold in the first day of the ad, and the phone rang off the hook for weeks afterwards. I obviously let it go for too little and would hate to make that mistake again.

I appreciate any input. Thanks.

What more will be done before you plan to sell it?

Just a bunch of little details. No major mods. Stuff like replacing the heater core, fine tuning the ride height, etc...

Then I think it's an 8 grand truck.

Re: 1980 Stepside Build... My first build thread

Got the new heater core and blower fan installed today. I now have heat!

Also cut off the rear half of my bottom leaf springs, so I now have 2.5 leaves per side, a 3/4" block (pinned to the leaves like a zero rate spring), and of course my axle flip. Finally got the ride height where I want it, and a pretty decent ride.

Looks great. I really like the stance, the rally wheels, the color combination (blue and saddle), and the early style grill.

Thank you. I'm really happy with the way the colors turned out. Just not sure if the wheels are doing it for me. I'm tempted to try painting them white. What I would really like is a set of standard steelies with dog dish caps, but I may just try shooting these white and see what I think first. Easy to put them back to silver if I don't like it.

And a close up. To my knowledge, the six cyl trucks didn't have an engine displacement emblem in the grille (at least I couldn't find one). So I ground off the 454 from the emblem that came with my grille, and cut up an emblem from an Econoline van to make my own.

Re: 1980 Stepside Build... My first build thread

I also finally got around to installing a manual choke. Since my carb came from a V8, and was originally equipped with a divorced choke - it was really my only option. Ran a cable through to the dash and now just have a small black choke knob. Didn't take any pics, but it came out looking pretty clean. Can't hardly see it against the black instrument bezel.

I also spent a couple of hours working on heating and molding the rubber floor liner to fit. Not perfect yet, but looks much smoother. I was able to remove most of the shipping creases.

I just went out and snapped some pics in the dark for you. Here is an overall shot of the carb.

The choke knob is the black circle to the right of the headlight switch. The trim piece it's mounted in is broken and doesn't fit correctly, so I need to replace it.

Re: 1980 Stepside Build... My first build thread

I forgot to mention that I also figured out why my reverse lights didn't work. When the PO swapped columns for the auto trans, he just didn't plug them back in! 20 second fixes are the best!

While I was under the dash, I also figured out why it will start in any gear. Instead of plugging in the neutral safety switch, he cut off the plug and spliced the wires together! It should be a quick and easy fix also, but I was cold and wanted to come inside and sit by the fire.

Thank you very much. I appreciate the kudos. It probably looks better in photos than in person, but I am happy with the way it is turning out.
