Re: 58 GMC Project

I had to change to the mounting brackets for the alternator to balance out the air conditioning compressor & alternator. I went with the top mount set up from Billet Specialties. I had to change the fuel filter and fuel line. I'm also changing from a mechanical fan do an electrical one. I have the fan but I am waiting on the aluminum shroud I ordered.

Thanks man! I checked out your truck, it looks like it's coming along. I like the work you did to the dash and the firewall!

Re: 58 GMC Project

Great looking detail on you engine. I noticed in a previous page of yours you were taking your cab in to get the floor and underneath sandblasted. Is there a reason that you didn't get the entire cab blasted. Only reason I'm asking is because I'm ready to take my cab in and I want to do it right. I heard blasting will warp the metal.

I was going to have the floor blasted under the cab, but the since I wanted to under coat the bottom, my body guy just cleaned it up and sprayed under coating then paint. I had rust on the inside floor so that was the reason I had the inside blasted. I also had the entire front clip blasted. And you’re right, if whom ever does the blasting does not know what they are doing, they can warp the metal. Blasting a 1 inch thick chuck of steel is not the same as the thin metal on panels.

Re: 58 GMC Project

Okay, I’ve been going through some picture post withdrawal. So here's what I did yesterday, the first day that's been less than 100 degrees in the last 14 day's. I installed an aluminum fan shroud and electric fan after deciding to do away with the mechanical one.

DUDE, THAT IS SWEET. ALMOST A SHAME TO PUT A HOOD OVER IT. TOO BAD NOBODY MAKES A LEXAN HOOD TO SHOW OFF THAT ENGINE.

I bought the fan off of an e-bay auction. Here's a link from the same seller for the same fan.http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/16-CH...1166QQtcZphoto The shroud I bought from Sumitt Racing. I tried to get the link for you but the part number SUM-381102 does not come up anymore. You might call them and see if they carry it anymore, although it was only about 3 weeks ago I ordered it.

Re: 58 GMC Project

Hey Cal.
Its almost a shame to put a hood over that awesome good looking engine room.
Do you get the cab back this week? Really looking forward to see it.
