Re: 1951 Chevy / C4

Well back at it now that I am back from vacation. I put the passengers rear fender back on. I have the splash aprons cut to the profile on the edges and still have to finish the edges yet. I bolted the grill back in because I am making a new radiator support so I can use the corvette radiator and fan. So I have the front end supported so I can take out the factory one out and replace with the new one. I am also getting ready to fix the running board braces also because the carriage bolt slots are all screwed up. They will get threaded plate instead of the slots. I am glad to be back at it.

Re: 1951 Chevy / C4

Oldman3, that is funny and thank you.

99 to life, thank you. The back will come up about 1.5 because I set it up for a little larger tire for the rear.

Well I planned to work outside today on the truck BUT it rained today. I am so fed up with rain this year. So I made the new radiator support. I then mounted the radiator and the corvette fan assembly. Then made a paneled top cover to hold the radiator. So next will be to mount it and make new fender supports.

Re: 1951 Chevy / C4

Looks good Shannon! I'm interested to see how you mount that radiator support, I'm looking at completely reworking mine now and building new inner fenders from scratch too. I think the original design while good for an inline motor leaves a lot of wasted space inside the fenders when running a V8, so I'm trying to capitalize on some of that space for ECU, overflow tank, windshield washer tank, etc.

Re: 1951 Chevy / C4

BlueJeep, Thank you. It will be in this weekend. It will get custom inners also. I want to find a place to hide fill/overflow tank so it will not be out in the open.

oldman3, Thank you. It is easy with the right tools. Anyone with a bead roller can do it. It really does stiffen up the panel and looks good to boot.

48 GMC BURB, Thank you. She is going to be nice. I love when the brown truck comes.

99 to Life, Thank you. Powering my bead roller was the best thing I could have done. It is just a HF winch for the power unit. Yes, hit me up when you are ready to do it. I can do it by myself as long as the panels are not too big. My dad stopped last week while I was doing the radiator support top and he thought it was slick on how I did it. By the way it is suppost to rain today, but we did have a couple day stretch on dry days.

dubie, Thank you, Glad you are driving yours now. That is the best thing when you can finally take it down the road.

Re: 1951 Chevy / C4

shannon, will do. I just seen a coupon for the 2k lb winch for $54. Which I don't think it could get any cheaper than that. Could you email me some pics? I'm gonna buy the winch and prolly their cheap bead roller for now. Do you have a drum switch on yours, or I guess you could just use the switch they provide, since it goes in and out. Anyway, sorry for clogging up your thread.

Re: 1951 Chevy / C4

Henry, no problem on the pictures and the info. I did use the 110 volt winch. It was around $120 that way I just have to plug into the wall. I used the switch that was supplied with it which works great. HF's bead roller just needs stiffened up and you will be good to go.

Re: 1951 Chevy / C4

I had a good day today. Started the morning with a 2 hr call with Trently(aussie54). Then started on mounting the radiator. I had to move it forward because it is the c4 corvette one and I used the electric fans also. It worked out pretty well. I used the same holes the factory uses. I used a piece of 2 1/2 tubing and then welded two 3/8 nuts to it. That then was welded to the bottom of the support. Then bent 1/8 plate for the fender supports. I still have to bend the 1x1 box for the outer fender braces. I also modified the c4 hoses to work too. I then jumped back to the drivers rear fender and made a whole new lower front because it had a bunch of filler over top sheet metal that was just brazed over the rusted holes. So now it is all new. I wanted to get that done so I can fix the running board supports after it is bolted up.

Shannon, work looks awesome as always.
I like your use of the 1,2,3 block, they sure do come in handy.

Have a good one.

Re: 1951 Chevy / C4

Oldman3, thank you.

99 to life, thank you.

69CST-V, thank you. Send it on over. Haha. Do not worry, yours will have a bad azz frame with porterbuilt building it!

Bubba54, thank you. Yes I do love my 1 2 3 blocks. It is amazing on how handy they are.

I mounted the rear drivers fender tonight and also pulled off the running board so I can fix the lower mounts. Then I mounted the fender well headers to check the fit and get an idea on the exhaust. It is getting cut outs coped into the rear of the front fenders. Then the exhaust will come out the back and turn down to the ground in front of the roll pan. Here are some pictures.

Great work Shannon. You definitely have that bead roller tuned in. Also, fender headers are cool. Nice indeed!

Looks sweet Shannon
There is plenty of room around the headers , the steering shaft & joints should be there this week.
I'll call you tomorrow

Re: 1951 Chevy / C4

Chevette, Thank you. It is fun making those panels. I sometime want to build another bead roller. The new improved model will have a little more throat and the lower shaft will able to move in and out so I can offset the dies to get different shapes. I robbed that from Lazze. It is good to see you working on your truck again and on here also.

48 GMC BURB, Thank you. Yes, the headers will work out great. I have the fender dumps figured out pretty much. I also got the steering joints and DD. Billy will sell you the column too. So you do not need to get one. I can not wait to get the steering hooked up so it will move better in and out of the garage.

oldman3, Thank you.
