Re: Orson the 49 GMC ~ Chris C.
we spent the whole day shopping at the junk yard, and got most of the parts to finish your truck. Have to go back tomorrow for a passenger door window and the gauge cluster. Didn’t have the correct tools. The only item I haven’t found is the drivers door glass. Still looking for that.

Re: Orson the 49 GMC ~ Chris C.
so we started work on the Speedometer today
Had quite an eventful day today. We were welding on the Transmission tunnel and forgot that the nylon fuel line runs right underneath it. But not to worry, the fire reminded us! Exhausted both fire extinguishers and the fire was still going. Got it out with bottled water just as the fire Department got there. In the end the only casualty was 18 or so inches of fuel line. Decided to just do both doors in new glass. Found a YouTube video that explains the framing pretty well.

Re: Orson the 49 GMC ~ Chris C.
The AC lines are nearly built and should be done tomorrow
We finished welding the center hump and will finish the top tomorrow on wed I go to Sedalia to bring one of the windshield pieces to Mark's Mobile Glass for a template to cut the new windshields. And I gave the speedometer template to Central logo today to make the faceplate decals

Re: Orson the 49 GMC ~ Chris C.
For today’s progress we made a few bends in the brake pedal so that it cleared the steering column
we also finished the Transmission tunnel and painted the floor, that was like a 3.5hr project!

Re: Orson the 49 GMC ~ Chris C.
we made up for yesterday by not making a whole lot of picture worthy progress today. We spent the day replacing your entire fuel system from the pump forward. (fire damage).
We did start laying the sound and heat barrier. We’ll finish it Monday.

Re: Orson the 49 GMC ~ Chris C.
We discovered a leak in your fuel tank, this needs to be addressed!
The wheel tubs are in paint and the bed subfloor is in for the last time! Tomorrow we put the bedwood in.

Re: Orson the 49 GMC ~ Chris C.
so Wyatt drilled a hole through the existing speedo glass for the button
We finished up your bedwood, I found bedstrips in KC... $20 a piece! That’s authentic 125 y/o barn wood! Christian finished the sound/heat barrier I think I found a solution for the crooked indicators, Wyatt is making an Aluminum bezel!

Re: Orson the 49 GMC ~ Chris C.
this is what we had to replace from the fire.
It’s all replaced now accept for the 5/16 quick connect (return line) which we had to ordern. We also installed the wiper posts and Transmissions. The windshields are being installed on Monday by Mark's Moble Glass.

Re: Orson the 49 GMC ~ Chris C.
The tail lights are in! They were listed for a Ford (I couldn’t find any Chevy specific ones). But we made them work.
They’re LED, so they’re super bright We also finished up the bedstrips and filled the rear end. The gauge decals will be ready tomorrow, here’s the proof

Re: Orson the 49 GMC ~ Chris C.
so what day are we shipping? I’m glad it’s not tomorrow, I had an appointment at 2pm to put in the windshield, at 2:15 I called. I was informed that my installer was out with COVID. Well that’s just great, it’s supposed to ship tomorrow, what are you going to do about it? Long story short, they’re coming at 11AM tomorrow.
We ran into another issue as well. As of today it won’t start. No fuel pressure. Changed pump and filter, blew out lines. Both pump and filter are brand new. You can hear the pump, but no fuel comes out. We can’t even get it to run out of a gas can! More diagnostics tomorrow. We wired the tail lights And hung/adjusted the drivers door. Sorry it’s not ready, the no start issue really consumed our time.

Re: Orson the 49 GMC ~ Chris C.
We finally figured out what was going on, it seems that one of my mechanics put the feed and return line on backwards at the tank!
https://www.facebook.com/sarge2017/v...59548065748751 Wyatt spent a little time customizing the glovebox liner. Tomorrow the gauges and the seat!
