Re: 85 burb meets 6.0 lq4

I am anxious to see you get this thing running! I really enjoy reading your updates. I really want to swap a 6.0L that I have into a 1990 K5. I am half scared that a built 700R4/4L60E will not hold up with the 33" tires I want to run. But looks to be a definate pain to find the right parts and install a 4L80E in the short K5. Do you think the built Monster you have will hold up long term? Will you be wheeling or towing with your suburban?

Re: 85 burb meets 6.0 lq4

I do plan on some wheeling but not towing anything. I do think that the monster transmission will hold up. It has almost every upgrade they make for the 700. Says its rated for 500 hp and 450 tq. I still have 2 years left on warrinty so i guess we will find out. May not hold up forever but i am not worried about it. It will deff spin a tire befor it trys to break a shaft or someting like that. Hope to be finding out soon.....

The adaptation is not in the flexplate. The factory used a spacer bolted to the back of the flexplate on the crank hub to adapt the 4L80E torque converter to the 6.0 engine. It can be used to mate an older trans / torque converter to any of the LS engines. Runs about $35 from GM if I remember right.

There is also a kit from GM that has the flexplate and the adapter. Part number 12621399 and sells for under $50.

http://www.ls1tech.com/forums/13720181-post27.html

If you have a 99 or 2000 vintage 6.0 you will not need the spacer as the crank is thicker to make up the difference and will stick out of the block like the last picture. The 2001-up 6.0's the crank flange is flush with the block face.

Re: 85 burb meets 6.0 lq4

So what is everyone doing for the coolant temp sensor and oil psi sensors? And where can a person find one of them block off plates that go on the oil pan to remove the oil cooler.

I'm planning on using adapters to put my old mechanical sensors in. Holding off on instrument upgrades until later...

The cheap and easy route is to tap the passenger side cylinder head for a standard 3/8-NPT fitting so you don't have to run a metric adapter for the coolant temp gauge.

There is a small bolted on fitting above the oil filter that people are tapping for an oil pressure gauge fitting. On the Vette it is tapped but some others it is not. I know the fitting is on the LS1's but don't know if it is on the LQ motors.

Re: 85 burb meets 6.0 lq4

unless I'm mistaken (and it wouldn't be the first time) my motors oil sensor is in the top of the valley pan, at the rear of the motor?

on my genIV....I think the oil pressure sensor is in valley cover, crank sensor is on side of block near the starter, cam sensor is on the timing cover, and I'm guessing coolant temp sensor off the front of the drivers side head.

Just put in an order with SDPC for a set of Manley Performance 5/16 4130 chrome moly pushrods in 7.400 length. And a Balacner bolt from them. Looks like a renamed arp. It is there house brand.

The spark plug wires that fit a camaro should fit a LQ4 right?

the "truck coils" are different then the LS1 coils. Not sure if it would make a difference in the wire length tho?

wounder if it is just the coil shape to fit under covers or the connector shape. Hmmmm... Maybe i will just go to the parts store and compare. My engine only came with 4 plug wires. What kind of plugs do these engines need. Do they come with the fancy iradiam ones?
