this might not help any since it's a completely different truck, but i was running a 225-70/235-60 combo on 15x7 steelies...drop was 5/8

I know your wheel woes have been taken care of for the moment, but I thought I would post this up. This is my cousin's 66 VW Double Cab. He went to a Chevrolet bolt pattern, and had a set of ralley wheels powdercoated, and went with the chrome hub cap, and a small beauty ring. Wrapped in a set of mild white walls I think it looks awesome. There are so many combinations of wheels and tires that would look good on your truck, and I think something like this may work too. I can't wait to see what you are going to run.

I agree with Scoti on the tire sizes. I think that the rallies would take away from your theme. How about PC the chrome reverse wheels white and use the chrome baby moons as another option?

Anyway, I know that we cannot see your "vision" for this truck. I hope you find a wheel that makes you happy! I really like the whole concept of this daily driver...

I shoulda kept pops ole '65.292/3 ona tree.
But at least I got his '72 350 before he went onward and upward. love the original rust as well. My (rusty truck) is comin along ok for who it's for.
But when asked why don't I paint it? I say..."I don't choose to keep up with the shinneys". No wax in my life. Just fresh scratches from prospecting. Petina of age, whatever, I dig it.

Dielectic under the HEI chip seemed to help for a while, but the gremlin still visits, (occasional no start) and a gentle tap with a deadblow to the uncovered coil makes fire again.
Ah the stories. Promised pop I'd care for the ole bowtie, Doubt I'd ever part with her. Oh yea the wife too.
Energy and happiness maynot be the same...but she's still here. Just like an old keeper.
That ignition thing...Any "new" ideas?

Another positive for the grill Hey Tx have you heard of, or done chrome powdercoat? If so what do you think of it and another question a guy i know bought a set of wheels that were powdercoated yellow then rattle canned black can he use paint remover or will that peel the powdercoat too thanks, Tony

Chrome powdercoat is my second most popular color. I did about 10 parts with it yesterday.

You buddy should be all right using paint stripper to get the spray paint off. The only stripper I have ever found to affect the powdercoat is air craft stripper. Generic walmart, home depot stuff won't cause the powder any harm.

No new pictures right now but I did three more things to the truck that made a huge improvement in enjoyment.

1) I worked that dent out of the front of the hood. It kind of funny, my girlfriend follows this thread (she a lurker, not registered). She came home from work the other day and mentioned how the guys on the board were ragging on my hood dent (70k52wd). I never really though about it, but a little work with a spoon and block of wood got it worked out. Sometimes I just need someone to point out the obvious to me. Big improvement in appearance. Thanks for the motivation 70k52wd.

2) I rebuilt the doors. I had an old set of doors so I removed a latch from one, refurbished it and installed it with a better striker and now the passenger door closes tight and right. Then I put new glass run channels in to keep the windows from rattling. Wow ! You never realize how noisy those old windows can be on rough roads when the felt has deteriorated after 47 years.

3) New cab mounts. No more squeaks for 60 dollars and 30 minutes work. Money and effort well spent.

I'm getting ready to put the new wheels on as soon as I can round up better sized tires.

Those rims scream TX..... big 'ole teddy bear of a guy . I think the real credit for the 'prompting' on the hood repair needs to be a 50/50 split between 70k52wd & your GF (the lurker).

Kevin, I am SOOO glad that you didn't hate on my comment. I will admit that I felt like hiding out after I post it up. It was indeed to motivate. Your truck is looking so good with the new grill and all your hard work. The hood had to be mentioned because it detracted from the grill.
And the teddy bear wheels, I'm sure match your personality.

For almost all jobs, the Lincoln does what I need. It has a small gun which is easy to get into tight areas. I keep it loaded with .023 wire. It's so easy to use on most anything automotive. I can sew just about anything together with it.

The big Miller can weld 1/2 inch plate in one pass. It's an absolute monster. It's ideal for heavy duty fab work like frame splices, building trailers, etc. I keep it loaded with .035 wire. It's not that great for thin stuff like this 14ga on this project. Plus the big gun is impossible to get into tight areas.

In my shop, I have a place for each of them, but for old trucks, the little Lincoln is tops.

Great job with the truck Kevin, my 1st truck was a 66 1ton 9ft step side, metal workers truck it had the same overhead racks you just built. They welded 1/4" plate around the stack pockets which eventually cracked the sheet metal. just an FYI are you getting 15mpg or better with the 327....ED
