Doesn't look like a 16 to 1 Piston does it?

No it really does not look like it would go that high. But a very small camber on such a big bore, it don't take much, but it looks like a dish, how big is the dish in the piston top?

Kind of freaked me out when I saw the sump picture, thought it was an L6 wiht huge plug wires.

Is that rust I see in the bores on post 368?

Nothing to worry about. We were running it on Q16. It is an oxygenated fuel. Thats why the piston looks a little crusty too.

Thanks Hotrod. Over 2 years to get the motor together. Once we get my header situation figured out I can start putting it back together.

Re: Ok Boys and Girls it's Storytime

Hey Regan, pretty sure I recall you were running a Turbo 400 with a 2.48 1st gear correct? If so are you still running that ratio? I know you are on a throttle stop, but when you have done a full launch how was the 1st to 2nd shift?

I'm running a 4.56 rear gear now with a 32.6" tire (next tire will be a 33), I'm building a new 400 for it and thinking that the 2.48 might be a bit too violent behind a 615ci BBC off the line, motor should be in that 1200hp 900trq give or take range, est shift point 7800, but until its on the dyno these are all just numbers off of past builds the shop has done.

Anyway wondering if I should do a 2.10 1st gear instead.

71 Dragtruck Just had TransKing freshen my 400 and added 300M input & main shafts ; clutch hub and a 2.22 1st gear from Coan. If you have any questions let me know maybe can help out.

Re: Ok Boys and Girls it's Storytime

I have been running a 2.10 low with a 1.31 second gear for years now. It can still be a little violent. The stock ratio is definitely a no go.

Thanks, thinking I'll have to do the same as 2.48 will be brutal.

Re: Ok Boys and Girls it's Storytime

Regan or 71Dragtruck,

Have either one of you guys tried a glide? I've been toying with that idea myself, but am making nowhere near the power that either of you two are making. I know there are a few different low gear choices available for the glide. My main reason for considering a glide is traction on a less than ideal track surface. Just curious if anyone has went that route.

I've been talking to Hutch about building me a trans, he said if my truck 3700# was a couple hundred lighter he would suggest a glide, but then I'd be back to a 2 piece drive shaft for sure.

Well,

I'd say Hutch ought to know, then. I just figured that, with that kind of power, maybe a 2-speed might calm things down enough to be of benefit. Sounds like you have things covered, traction-wise, with the 4-link and being more able to compensate for the hit of a 3-speed.

Re: Ok Boys and Girls it's Storytime

Some guys with 400’s that have the valve body to run the trans brake in 2nd have launched that way too I guess, if your trans is set up for it. I’ve never seen it, just read over on the yellow bullet guys talking about it.

Sorry for taking your thread off topic Regan, guess I should have started a new one.

No problem 71. I honestly just like my 3 speed. Powerglides kinda bore me. I have driven quite a few racecars with them. My ratios work good for me on the throttle stop because I come off the stop with a 5.97 ratio (in 2nd gear).

Yep, sorry about the thread hi-jack, too. You guys kinda reminded me about one of my off-season projects. I do appreciate the info from you both.
