Hmm, I just thought of something. I wonder how we tell what wheel adapter will work now? We don't know what year the van column is. Argh!@#@#@!

Re: Project Where'd The Money Go

I'm running a TPI set-up in mine using a painless harness, and didn't have any issues...with the stock harness I just jumped the neutrel safety plug and on the painless harness I connected two of the wires togather...I will check tonight and let you know what wires they were.

Cool. I appreciate it! Hopefully, we can make the damages as minimal as possible. Still not 100% sure of what the Neutral Safety switch does, but I definitely want backup lights. I know the Lokar part can do that for me. Just not 100% sure I don't need the Neutral part of it. I think it just keeps truck from being started in anything but neutral. If that's the case, I can probably handle not doing that. It may have been something else though. Just don't quite have that clear in my head.

You may be right. What keeps baffling me is the ones on Ebay that specify Chevrolet/GMC pick-ups 1974-94.

Re: Project Where'd The Money Go

Decided to relocate the neutral safety switch this weekend. Wasn't too bad. At least, the first part wasn't. Seeing if it works in a few weeks is another thing entirely..

Kinda forgot to take pics until we were halfway through. Here's some pics of the process:

Even the wife likes to get in there and help!

Re: Project Where'd The Money Go

Did you just cut a new slot lower on the column and that was it, or did you have to do some other stuff to the column? I pulled my column out this weekend, but haven't got around to seeing what I had to do to make it work...what kind of measurements did you have to make?

Re: Project Where'd The Money Go

Also played a round of 'identify that part' with the board... I think we have this narrowed down to a horn relay or a heat/ac high speed fan relay. If it is the horn relay, we just need to know how to hook it up. We have a Painless Wiring Kit, and I can't find any mention of how to hook up the horn.

Also in the process of wiring up the a/c controls to our Surefit Vintage Air system. If you've already been through this process and have detailed pics of the wiring, please let me know and point us in the right direction.

Eric.

Basically, that was it. I just eyeballed where I wanted it to end up under the dash and then made a mark. Then we found the centerline of the column and marked that. Then we duplicated the size of the opening off the centerline and checked it against what the FAQ says the hole should be. We have a truck neutral safety switch instead of a van switch, so we didn't have to cut into the inner steering column tube like the FAQ shows (http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=147927). Instead, I just manufactured a little tab to screw in to the inner column. The moving part of the switch just sits right in that metal tab I made. You can see the tab in the pic with the green tape. I used a small cutoff wheel to make the bigger cuts and finished the small cuts and ends with a Dremel. Took about two hours total I would say and that included removing the column from the truck and putting it back in.

Re: Project Where'd The Money Go

OK, so running into a problem installing my A/C controls. I'm wondering if I'm missing a part or if something else is wrong. I can't get the A/C controls to line up with the mounting holes in the dash. Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong or missing? Hopefully these pics will help. Basically, the mounting points on the dash are further apart than the points on the a/c controls. Also, when the controls are flush in their slot, the mounting points are about 3/4" - 1" away from the mounting point on the dash.

Ugh. I hope not. I think ours looks like the ones I've seen on other threads, but never found anything else to indicate if there is more to it.

I posted this same request for info in the main message board and someone said it looks like we are missing a bracket. Here is a link to that thread:

http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...=1#post4523757

He included a picture of one as well. If anyone knows what it is called, let me know.

Hahaha! Nah, you're catching up with me, but I appreciate it! You'll need it before you know it. If I knew the official name, I'd just post a WTB. Guess I'll go for description and a picture of it.

Thanks for confirming that for me, Heath. I was hoping that was the case, but hadn't been able to confirm it. I know the Painless kit had said nothing about it so was hoping it wasn't just omitted.

Re: Project Where'd The Money Go

Getting close to installing motor (we think). From past experience, is it very difficult to install the inner fenders AFTER the motor is in? We'd rather do the inner fenders after to give us more room and keep us from messing em up, but when we did some test fitting a while back, it seems like we used some of the space where the engine would normally be sitting.

Thanks, Mike! BTW, I'm jealous of your freebie speakers. I love Kicker products! I used to live in Stillwater so had access to discounted stuff, but never FREE!!!! Argh! Good score.
