Lol! Ya, I was on a roll until the deep, wet lung filled cough came on. 5 out of 8 guys at work haven't showed up for a couple days and we are definately not getting anything done during the day or staying after to tinker on the trucks. I am taking family to the airport this morning ( wife in bed too sick to get up) and saw this. I wasn't going to go work on it but you have givin me inspiration James!

90 % of the time I am a one man show / I have used this a lot and it has worked great every time / I bought a really good chisel for my air hammer, it cuts the head off like butter then use the punch on the air hammer.

Re: Crossing over, the 65 rebuild.

I use those cheap chizzels from HFT and keep sharpening them as I go. (use eye protection and ear muffs) They take those heads off with ease.
Then a punch with help from Mr.Sledge. Or you can forget all that and lop off the entire back half like Steiner. Saves time I think?

Glad to hear ya got to putt around to get pizza.
Hope you and the family get over this crud before Christmas. Im over it but I still get that stinkin cough, get light headed, things get reeeeeeal quiet and wooozy.

Get better and update!

Re: Crossing over, the 65 rebuild.

Ok, Sickness is somewhat over and now that I have digested enough fod for a small country I need to get off the couch and get some stuff done! I try to eat healthy, excercise, take vitamins etc to avoid getting sick and usually get hit 1 day a year. I've had this crud for 5 weeks and doing an airbag system In an open shop with curtains, little heat and minus 10 degrees outside probobly didn't help. My next car or truck isn't going to be a car or truck, its going to be a shop!

I admit to bringing the suck when it comes to welding, so after ordering a couple different "hidden hitches", reading the " show me your hitch" thread that TJ did, I caved and am having a buddy weld one in. I tossed out the design, he tossed in some engineering and we should have a hitch built and nearly invisible in a few hours. I wished I had seen the 67-72 rear bumper conversion with flip down plate prior to buying the new rear 60-66 fleet bumper for the rear as it would have made today go by a lot quicker and not have an extension ove the bumper and under the gate. That's why reading as many threads here before you start a project and using the search button saves a ton of time and money!

Wish us luck

Re: Crossing over, the 65 rebuild.

Here's what we came up with. A truely hidden hitch on a 65. The stinger is an extended neck style and the plate has a nub that fits into the reciever and pinned.

Nice job.

How far does the stinger/ball stick out?

Re: Crossing over, the 65 rebuild.

Hey Youngrodder, Burb has the same style, but drops below the rear bumper. Its built a little beefier to haul the traveltrailer. Should have bpics in my build, or I can send you a few.

Bomp, it sticks past the rear bumper about 5 inches.

Here's the stinger or ball mount and the backside of the plate mount. Another with the ball mount installed.

Re: Crossing over, the 65 rebuild.

My 13 year old nephew is in town and thought we would do a little Hot Rod 101. We dug around at the pawn shop for a socket with the outside diameter of 13/16 and found a 3/4 socket that was perfect. Bought it and a 6 inch 3/8 extention for $1.00 grabbed some glass blue dots and the trusty propane torch. Had him pull the lenses and heat up the socket. We pushed the red hot socket through the center of the taillamp lens and installed the blue dots.

Newfisher..

I will look through your Suburban build for the hitch pics. You learn something everyday...I always wondered how blue dots were installed. "Now I know and knowing is half the battle"..J.I. Joe.

Thanks Phillip!

Found this box on my door step. Its my 62-65 Chevrolet accessory dealer add on A/C. Was intended for cars, but I'm gonna try to make it fit in the truck.
