oldblue1968chevy- I'll be sure to update when that starts up. Might be picking up a little beater for the summer so I can save gas $$$ and build the truck up some more

Tonight was a good night. Met Slick67, and spent a good while talkin' and walkin' with him at the Nifty 50ees meet.

Re: 1969 Chevy CST/10 comes home [Long-term project "OrangeCrush"]

We now have 1980s level technology in the drivetrain! Say hello to 200R4, 4spd automatic with a 65% overdrive and near bolt-in dimensions.

An Art Carr rebuild kit will beef it up, electronically locking torque converter will also contribute to well improved fuel economy at higher speeds Gearing in 1st and 2nd is a bit shorter than the TH350, so it aught to be a little quicker through the lower gears, and the tall OD will put 75-80 mph at 2500 RPM, I estimate. Which is way better than the current 65mph at 3000 rpm, and cruising at 75-80 is a pipedream.

Core was $50, rebuild kit is $300 (full kit, with upgraded parts), ~20 for the throttle kit to get it on the q-yet, pump and torque converter (still pricing), and the cost of a rebuild from a friend. I have no idea of an exact number, but it's going to be tons better than what I have now on the freeway. Around town I can average 15mpg, but once on the freeway it drops below ten I'd reckon.

Re: 1969 Chevy CST/10 comes home [Long-term project "OrangeCrush"]

glad to see your orange truck is still ticking...

I'd like to welcome you to the world of overdrives.....hope you do better than me.........I'm on my 3rd tranny builder for my 700r4 and I've spent over $3000 between two transmissions but I think It might turn out right finally......I had to buy another truck from my Dad to drive around.... because mine was in the shop so much....one time it was in there for 5 months

I wish you luck with your 200-4r and I'm interested to see if it does better than my 700r4...........I'm not spending any more money on mine. If mine breaks out of warranty I'm going to go with a NV4500.

with the first tranny builder it was in the shop with problems with the front seal and loosing 4th gear every couple of months for a year, at first the guy said I was not installing it right, so I paid him an extra $250 to install it and he had the same problems, then he blamed it on the guy who built my engine saying that the engine produced too much vibration, then finally the last time he rebuilt it he said my warranty was up...i didn't even make it home

......then I took it to my engine builder (who I now work for) and he had another guy rebuild it and found a bent input shaft, missing front seal retainer and a bunch of other stuff, after unsuccessfully rebuilding it a couple of times he switched to a different 700r4 case, valvebody and converter and rebuilt it again. it lasted for a while with no problems at all then I lost 2nd gear, then 4th, then 3rd (we think this was to do with an improperly set TV cable, the holley TV cable bracket has two knobs that the TV cable is supposed to go on and it was on the wrong one).......then my boss got one of his guys to rebuild it (he doesn't even specialize in transmissions) and I just put it back in the other day and it worked for a day but then 4th stopped working.... they pulled it apart and the 4th clutches were burnt, so they found a GM TSB from the 80's about adding an extra steel in the 4th gear clutch pack to keep it from overheating and ordered another set of clutches....and as soon as they come in, I'll put it back in the truck and see what happens......

my truck and I have put each other through so much hell that the only way I'm getting rid of it is if its stolen........even if it's totalled so bad that all I have left is a 1x1 peace of sheet metal I'll rebuild it from that

Art Carr rebuild kit, BTO linkage and TV cable are in, just hunting for a good price for the converter and pump. An old shop foreman of my dad, and 30 year transmission guy is going to build it for free. $50 core, $270 on the kit, maybe another $300 on the pump and converter. Ooooooodles of labor saved.
