Re: 1966 SBBW pro street

I think you can get a better look at it from this picture too.....you can see the seat mounts and all of the bars they hang off of...

now thats funny!! so any idea on a color or still thinking about it?? and i got a question about the brace by the door opening? you said it took forever to get into, would it be track safe to do like an s bar? instead of a slated straight piece that you have in there now! that way it would be a lil easier to get into!! jmo!!
==================================================
Thinking that original color that was on the cab in the begining....high gloss...some flake......and a white side strip with a pearl in it.....but haven't done any samples yet..

When i said it took forever dude....i ment that it's been a long time since my butt was in the truck not that it was difficult to get into.

You can't really do a S bar if you want to pass tech at the track because the drivers side bar has to fit to each driver..( passanger bar isn't even required just wanted it to match )....so if you taller that side bar would have to be higher...plus it also helps that when I get into the truck it would be bagged down and about a 1" off the ground so your stepping down into the seats....

plus....I will be running the " Quick " steering wheel kit...the kind that just pop off and snap back on.

Re: 1966 SBBW pro street

Yeah, can see some of it. Thanks for the clarification. Would always like to see more pictures. I am doing a cage as well and am at the same spot of figuring out how to mount the seats. Also working on outrigger (to the frame) designs. What did you do for the outriggers?

==================================================
If i get a chance tomorrow i will see if i can take some more cage pictures for you.....The outriggers come right off of the boxed chassis and are 2"x3" steel on edge that come up from the frame and right to the pads that the cage bolt too....I think if i were to do it again if your cab mount brackets have any rust at all...You really don't need them because those outriggers actually carry the entire cab anyhow if ya follow what i am saying. Basically if you use the cab mounts and the outriggers ( thats what i did ) you end up with 8 cab to chassis mounts instead of the four....not that it's bad to have extra

Re: 1966 SBBW pro street

Hey Wutnxt great roll cage work, I love this truck. Have you put any thought to how much horsepower it will take to run a given E.T and checked the NHRA Regs? Your fabricator looks like he knows plenty, so I'll continue hoping not to be talking to Austin Coil or something, 565 hp will put a 3700 lb truck @ about a 12sec e.t. An 11.5 only requires a roll bar. Here's a link to play with, not sure which horsepower it uses but I use both, dyno hp and -20% for drive train loss.

NHRA rules change at 10.5 and 9.5 etc, each second milestone = more bars on your cage. Getting in the 10's let alone the 9's takes serious power.

How much horsepower are you hoping for???

Dude the trucks looking nice! Question though, how do you get the bed off with the cage there? What color you plan on painting that thing?

==================================================
The chassis and the cage are both NHRA approved.....there is no problem with any of that...

HP is another thing altogether.....I have alot of options there, so I started with a big bottom end to allow for lots of add on. So depending on how we drive the blower they figure if they underdriver the blower....detune it...It would start out around 600HP ish to the rear...Which is probaly where i will start it at to do a break in and get used to it. What it's able to do on the top side is alot more but i think we will wait until I get to the dyno stage before I start tossing those numbers around. But the plan is after it's broke in and running, to up the drives on the blower and hit it with a nitrous set up.
But we will see....I have already ran all the numbers and had them checked at the engine shop and by my chassis buddy......but at this point they are all numbers....I might never take it to the track and be totally happy with where we start out at....it's a play be ear kind of thing at this point

==================================================

Well the front panel of the box comes off from the inside box side.....then the box is unbolted from it's mounts.....there is a rolled pan between the cage in the box and the front box panel that comes out....and after the batteries and fuel cell are delt with it sides off to the back of the truck.....Ya it's a bit of a pain but after it's all done and painted i shouldn't have to take it off for a long.....long time....crosses my fingers

Not sure yet what color but i am working on it....lol

There just are not many pictures of cage installs that are done nicely. It is great to see this to get ideas.

Thanks!

Re: 1966 SBBW pro street

Getting ready to do the rough exhaust work....

Thinking of going with 2"tube short fender headers that run to a 4" collector
and then dumping the 4" right out throught the side of the box infront of the tires.....still thinking flamer throwers in'em.....cause secretly I think I am still a kid....lol
