We ran the a/c lines in my truck the same exact way. they are so hidden that people sometimes dont even realize the truck has a/c.

That is awesome how tucked away those lines are! I think you have me convinced that the hassle will be worth it to do that to mine!

That is what i am shooting for Al !! and i actually have the side panels and front panels that will hide them even more ! Do you have a shot of your lines , how they go to the ac condensor and then a shot going to the compressor ?

Can you get the A/C lines in any length or are there limitations on the overall length they are built?

Re: 67 cheby's Dropmember build thread

I imagine there is some sort of limit to a roll size, but I bet its crazier than what most would be willing to pay for or have a need for. You can buy it by the foot from Vintage Air. Some auto shops like Car Quest carry it too.

Re: 67 cheby's Dropmember build thread

the only thing that prevents you from running realy long lines that i can think of is the amount of freon in the unit , you need to add more when you go realy long .
it looks realy neat now i think you cant even see the unit under the dash when you sit in the car

Re: 67 cheby's Dropmember build thread

Looking good Mike. Did your V/A heater and a/c line not come straight out? Or do they route at a different angle? I have an older unit (had it almost 3 years) and the lines run straight through the firewall just to get it mounted. I thought about doing what you are doing but the fixed copper lines prevented me from changing the routing.

Re: 67 cheby's Dropmember build thread

the Vintage Air unit i ordered was for a smoothed firewall, so the lines point straight out toward the pass door

Re: 67 cheby's Dropmember build thread

here are a few other thing i worked on last night, i am thinking of making me some new grill to rad core support fillers, i want them to go completely over the top of the core support and then bend over about 1/2 inch to hold the inner panels that i built in place . I also took off the hinges i am going to rebuild them before we do the final alignment and gapping of the doors. Tonights project the bottom of the pass door has a few small pinholes so i am going to wire brush it and see how it turns out (we have already don the metal repalcement on the bottom of the drivers door)

Re: 67 cheby's Dropmember build thread

looks good, and yea, 10-12' lines are nothing, I am sure you can imagine how long the lines are in some of the new tractors and combines on farms these days..just need more refrigerant.
I really thought long and hard about putting in ac, but then figure -my climate is mild and hey, my windows are gonna be open 90% of the time anyway, but after looking at Big_Als install as well as yours, it makes me want that option..

Re: 67 cheby's Dropmember build thread

Yeah, you have to specify "Smooth Firewall" when you order to get the tubes turned straight out instead of pointed at your firewall.
