Re: Project' 69 c10 aka sin.

You are a dumb teenager! Bwahaha. Hell, we all are. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, ya dig?

I'm not sure on the rocker studs - I haven't played with them yet.

The undercarriage on that baby looks clean. Cripes, am I jealous.

Also, any wrecking yard should have an oil pan for a 230/250. Otherwise, hit up craigslist. I don't think it'll be a special kinda like in the Chevy II with the weird sump arrangements.

Keep at 'er man. It'll be a sweet cruiser. And don't forget about your truck in the mean time.

Re: Project' 69 c10 aka sin.

no problem lol sometimes i get carried away, or get snappy myself, im sure your feeling stressed with your leg to. good luck!!
im not sure theirs much power difference between the two sixes, and im sure their both real reliable. i found in my two different manuals a head torque of 90lbs in haynes and 95lbs in chiltons. so id say anything between 90-95lbs

Re: Project' 69 c10 aka sin.

Hands down, in my opinion, the 230 is better. It's a more modern combustion chamber than the 235, better oiling, a better aftermarket and parts interchange, 7 main bearings...etc etc. Both the 235 adn the 230 are damn good engines, i just think the later generation has better qualities.

Re: Project' 69 c10 aka sin.

My leg hurts like **** lately. ahhhh this isn't much fun
BE careful guys... you dont want this **** to happen to you.

so we got the head on, and everything went smoothly.

need to figure out how to torque the rocker arm studs to spec.. and need to know the spec on that.

also still not sure how rocker arm studs are installed.. gonna try freezing them and then pounding them in. only 2 are of great concern.

Re: Project' 69 c10 aka sin.

I'd say the wheels are fine.
Only one of the tires is not right.
Has 4 hub caps but there 2 different sets.

Tires are 35 bucks only for these 14" rims so might get 4.

Re: Project' 69 c10 aka sin.

We got all the rockers set.
And the motor RUNS.
Now all we need is some trans fluid
And to get the bad gas out of the gas tank....

But it runs good no leaks.

Re: Project' 69 c10 aka sin.

To install the studs we put them in the freezer, than used the impact hammer and a piece of aluminum.
Worked great!

Breaks also are needed

Re: Project' 69 c10 aka sin.

i just used a siphon i bought at walmart(about 4 bucks) when i pulled the tank out of my 86. how much gas is in the tank? if its about a quarter or less ive heard of some people filling the tank full with good gas just an octane higher, then doing the tune up after the tank is empty, idk how good that is but ive done it, its up to u. good luck

Re: Project' 69 c10 aka sin.

I dig steelies alot, but thats just me.

And yeah, the master cylinders were single until '67, then they switched to double pot style.

I'd put some brake fluid in the master, and start pumping, just to see if there is any hope of getting something to catch. That should let you know if theres a broken line, or if the master itself is bad, or if the wheel cylinders are leaking.

Keep at 'er.

Re: Project' 69 c10 aka sin.

damnit i think the timing chain is bad
cause when we line up the marks on the harmonic balancer and set the timing for number one accordingly.
the engine runs like crap.
it is like rough and just not right.
hardly runs at all and when we check with the timing light its not even close but in the ball park still 4 inches off.

so.... idk about this motor i think its seen to many miles.
give me any tips on

why the motor would have such a rough idle

and tell me if im setting the timing right with harmonic balancer

thanks guys..

Try NAPA or AutoZone for a Timing Chain.

Re: Project' 69 c10 aka sin.

i just called autozone they cant even order it.
i bet other places would be the same. i tryed napa must not be open right now.

bummer

Edit. still bummed
but i can get cam kits for this motor that come with a timing chain.

would it be worth it to put a new cam in. and get head work done... since she does burn some oil.. for the little while it has been
running.

i know these motors are cool.. but they aint' worth squat.. could maybe get 75 bucks for it and that pushing it.
