It is definitely worth the money...bedsides are one of the few aftermarket pieces that fit fairly well....jim

Yes it was some cash but it seems stupid not to do it when I'm already going this far.

I've tried to repair mine but it is too much work.

I think you will be very happy with your purchase, I know I was. It is a huge chunk of change to shell out but it totally beats trying to fix rusty crap parts. I just don't have the patience for that who did you end up ordering through.

Yea a chunk of change is right. I ordered through a local company that sells chevy restoration parts. Same prices as everywhere else but I can pick them up in about 30 min. They have marker lights and stake pockets but I am gonna keep them all for now. There is always time to shave stuff in the future right, lol.

Re: 1970 SWB : Porterbuilt to the Extreme "Double E"

Well I started to rewire this beast this weekend. I took Friday off and planned to get it mostly done, well that didn't happen. The EZ wire harness isn't as EZ as they make it out to be. 3 days later I am a little over half way done rewiring the truck. I am going to set up a terminal block under the dash to disconnect the wires going to the front and I will do the same in the rear. That way I can remove the cab if need be in the future.

I have the headlight switch wired up, the dash cluster wired up with the exception of the alternator wire and fuel guage feed wire, the ignition switch is wired up.

I still have to hook up all of the power, and engine components as well as the lights. My goal is to be able to turn the key this week to see if all my power is in the right spots.

I can say I commend those guys on TV like Overhaulin and any other car show that rebuilds a car/truck from scratch in 7 to 10 days. I don't care if they have 30 people working on it, that is still a task.

Did I mention wiring sucks. I don't know what is worse wiring or bodywork, haha.

Well Mike I am beginning to think the same thing. Maybe I will have a better outlook on bodywork now once the wiring is complete.

I know Jim. That is why I am trying to do it right. I hope to be able to hook a battery up this week and turn the ignition to see if everything electrical works properly before trying to start her up. Crossing my fingers.

Re: 1970 SWB : Porterbuilt to the Extreme "Double E"

Well fellas, I went and picked up my new bed on Friday night. I took them out of the box at the parts store and they are so pretty. I haven't even taken them out at home yet. They are so pretty, smooth and black with no rust and holes, that will cut out some serious time.

I am finishing up my basement bathroom this week so I can start working on the truck after the kids go to bed. I am itching to drive this thing so freakin bad it is killing me. Still have to finish up the wiring though.

Glad to see you got your bed for it, believe me it will definitely save you a ton of time then repairing the old. I know it did for me.

Looks nice man, I've never done any wiring except for a basic car head unit and changing out some speakers but the thought of rewiring a truck is overwhelming to me. I commend you for doing it, keep it up you'll be driving in no time.

Thanks man. I can't wait to inbox them and get them on. One thing at a time. I want to finish this re-wire job before I start something else.

I'm sure the re-wire job would have been a lot easier with a true painless wire kit opposed to an "EZ" wire kit. It is a pain but it could becworsd I guess lol.

Re: 1970 SWB : Porterbuilt to the Extreme "Double E"

I finally got some time at 10:00 last night to work on the wiring. I have everything set up and ready to hook a battery up to check all my power outputs before buttoning up the wiring and routing everything properly.

I do have a couple wires I am still wondering if I have them properly hooked up or not. I have a 2 wire IS10 alternator and have the excitor wire hooked up to the one side of the alternator and I have the bypass wire going to the battery. I can determine where to hook up the dash cluster alternator wire up. It is a guage dash. I also can't determine if I need a shunt or not. Anyone got any insight. I have read all the EZ wire posts and I am still a little confused on this part.

Re: 1970 SWB : Porterbuilt to the Extreme "Double E"

I don't have experience with the EZ wire harness, but I did use an American Auto Wire harness on my 71. Their instructions are pretty handy. I'm assuming you meant that you have a 10SI style alternator (internal regulator) and not the original 10DN (external regulator) style. If this is the case, you might take a look at these and see if it helps.

You can find all their instructions for the Classic Update Kit here: http://www.americanautowire.com/kit-...10089&find=any

Good luck!

Thanks for the American Auto wire diagram. That will help to ensure my connections are hooked up properly. I intend on hooking the battery up in the next two days.
