More and more and more wires. Finally got the transmission and VSS wires shortened down to where they need to be, and put the connectors on the main engine harness. Sounds so simple, took forever!

This first shot shows two of what GM calls "Splice Packs" - it's a waterproof connector that allows you to link six wires together without soldering (in this case, the four injectors and coil packs on each side of the engine are linked). Also, you can see the 10 pin connector (with the purple close to the bottom of the shot) which carries my gauges and the OBDII port.


This shot shows the main engine harness disconnect. 22 pins! The entire engine unplugs from the truck just like that. Easy peasy

IMO I'm liking bright backups so you can see where the hell your backing, it also warns everybody to get outta there!

Wow super bright but they look good. I'll be converting mine to L.E.D. prob do similar to you with the light cups.

Truth be told! I've had trouble adjusting to driving a fleetside, my stepside has much brighter back up lights!

Are you using the bulb-replacement type LEDs? I admit LED isn't really my style, something about the traditional bulbs and glass lenses just looks right to me. I am doing updated headlights, though. Sealed beams are terrible!

So I've got no pictures tonight, but I spent the evening modifying my (brand new) Newport clean drive wiper motor. When you buy the 12v conversion, it comes with this horridly cheap switch that I just couldn't stand. I modified the wiring internally in the motor (actually a VERY simple modification), which now allows me to use a F*rd style wiper switch. I also discovered that most of the cost of the 12v wiper conversion is in the brackets and linkage, because it's an off the shelf Wesco wiper motor.

The good news from that, is I can now have a plug'n'play OEM quality wiper-washer switch with two speeds AND variable delay settings.

Well I'm not really sure what I am using for the light but using stock housing I think. I don't want any incandescent lights at all in the truck.
Is there a Wesco part number on the wiper motor?

I know if you use the larger 51-53 style there is a drop in LED replacement.

I don't have the Wesco number (the decal's off the motor) but this is the Marinco equivalent:

It's configured to the 120* wipe angle setting, easy change. I can post details on how to modify the park circuit to use the F*rd switch, as well, if anyone is interested.

Modified my original headlight buckets to accept the Jeep JK headlights - they're both rusty and I've ordered replacements, but wanted to figure out my plan of attack here first.



I've done these on a bunch of classic cars and trucks now, it's a great mod for nighttime visibility that isn't too obvious to the casual glance.

Wire routing is going to be about this:

The harness here will get loomed and then overwrapped with dry vinyl and heavy electrical tape - don't need road debris getting in there. I'm also going to make the hole in the back of the headlight bucket A. round and B. I'll make a sheetmetal cover with a couple screws or wing nuts for bulb access down the road.

Here, you can just barely see, the original wiring grommet on this side is about 1/2" away from the A/C compressor clutch, so I had to relocate it up closer to the core support - which is fine, as the front lighting harness is going to cross over the radiator, as original.

Made up the mount for the trailer connector tonight. I need to lay in that harness so I can finish up the frame harness and get that part of the wiring tied up, and the best way to get the harness length is to know where it's going




It's going to be mostly hidden behind the bumper, but I'll paint it matte black to help make it disappear, a bit.

If you search Jeep headlight, a bunch of threads will come up. It's a JK Jeep Wrangler (2007 - present) headlight, takes an H13 halogen bulb. The optical design is vastly superior to the old sealed beams, and they're a drop in replacement. Or nearly, I had to modify the buckets here a little, but I've done them on 67-72's no mods, and on a 1st gen Mustang no mods as well. This pair I think I paid $35 for on ebay, a lot of Jeep owners replace them with LED or aftermarket HIDs

You're in the right vintage, and the right sort of vehicle, but not the right one. At least for the switch bezels. The ignition bezel is from a different donor.

I'll take it, you couldn't be any closer without actually being right. The switch bezels are '67 Bronco stuff, very similar to the F-series from the '60s.

I am new to the forum, been catching up on several builds. I just purchased a 52' and although it's mostly done, S-10 frame, LS1, interior, etc. I still want to make it mine by changing a few things... bags,A/C,Fulton sun visor etc. I really enjoy this site, lots of great ideas. Your building a beautiful truck and you have great skills. My truck has the original "patina" and I plan on leaving it as such. yes ogre it has rust... LOL but webster defines patina as

a : a usually green film formed naturally on copper and bronze by long exposure or artificially (as by acids) and often valued aesthetically for its color
b : a surface appearance of something grown beautiful especially with age or use
I choose "b".....

anyway, on your post #278 it shows a digital angle finder, could you tell me what brand that is?

Thanks for the kind words! Will be looking forward to seeing your build.

As to the angle finder - I've no idea! I just used a cheap mechanical type deal from Sears. Not great, but accurate enough to get my engine and rear within a degree or so.

I keep working on wiring, but I've been swamped at work lately and I'll be traveling for the Holiday, so Red is on hold for a bit.

So I said I wasn't going to have time to get to the shop, and then I found an hour and some change to get out there so here we are!

This one is left over from the weekend, I did the second headlight bucket a little more neatly, this is how the replacements will be done. I am going to end up with a flat sheet metal cover held on by two wing nuts, probably.

You can just see at about 7 o'clock the small recess I filed in the inner bucket to allow the bulb to sit in - there's a small stud on the backside that mounts the reflector in the housing. These headlight buckets have a slightly smaller hole than the later GM ones do.

But vastly more important, I did a little more frame trimming and was able to get the grille to fit up!

So I didn't goof up the core support too badly

Just a few shots showing clearance. I actually have a fair amount more space than I expected with my radiator moved 3" forward the way it is.




I still have the A/C condenser to wiggle in there, and I'm going to be mounting the horns up here on either side of the radiator (there are four of them ).

I also need to trim the frame horns a bit more, so I can make some sort of front cross member deal to mount the front bumper to.

Part of the reason this wiring is taking so long is it's forcing me to deal with 1,001 little detail items I wasn't really worrying about before, like WHERE AM I GOING TO MOUNT ALL THESE AUXILIARY COMPONENTS??

Anyways, started working on horns, tonight. There's four of them, in total, the other ones are going to be *more or less* mirrored on the other side - they're all different shapes?, but you get the idea.




I'm also simultaneously working on the ignition supply solenoid, wiper reservoir mounting, and modifying and adjusting things (like my fuse block mount) that I previously thought were set and done ...

Had a lot of yard work to do yesterday, and spent most of today pulling parts off one of the various other projects I have going around here ... but found a few minutes to work on Red.

I'm not done integrating all the wiring, but I hopefully should have the front clip fully wired up tomorrow. One more step towards the finish.
