Re: 24 years later....here we go

Yes it was a longbed. I had it down to bare frame and built a jig. Then cut it on a 45, plated and boxed it. A friend of mine who builds trailers to haul combines welded it for me (mig). No C-notch necessary with the 4/6 unless you're gonna haul or tow something. Has plenty of clearance, just a matter of preference. The kit rides nice although I plan on adding a front sway bar..

The front sway bar is a tremendous upgrade over the horrendous body roll these trucks have you'll feel the difference immediately trust me

Re: 24 years later....here we go

Thanks to everyone for the comments. I went to the junkyard yesterday and got a sway bar off of an early 80's 3/4 ton pickup. I need to order the mounts and bushings from ECE this week. Also took it over last night to my neighbors and we pulled a vacuum on the AC and charged it. It cools really good and had no leaks..Really all I have left is the color matched liner and some very small details. Thanks again for the comments, Im kind of sad that its almost finished...

I know exactly what you mean about being sad when a prject comes to an end. There is a cure for this - start another project!

Re: 24 years later....here we go

Small Teaser Update (no pics):

The radiator that I got out of the 72 parts truck was'nt cooling well even after the cleaning so I ordered a new 4 row from autozone. It fits perfect and cools so much better for a very reasonable price and has brass/copper tanks. Should have done that sooner. It was fine until I had the A/C charged the other day and with it all together it was running a little warm for my taste so I got a new one. Cooling problem solved. Also I pulled a swaybar off of a 3/4 ton square body at the the junkyard and have intentions of sending it for powder. I ordered the appropriate bushings and the mounts from ECE for a lowered truck. We are headed on family vacation for a week or so, when I get back its going to Line X for the color matched liner. I have driven it quite a bit, up to 50 miles at a time with no problems at all. The overhauled TH350 has one pesky drip that Im tracking down but thats about it. Overall I'm very happy with it. If I could change one thing I would probably have done an OD transmission but I could always do that reasonably. Thanks for everyones interest, I will get some more pics up soon.....

Re: 24 years later....here we go

I got the swaybar installed today with the stuff from ECE. They sure do make some quality parts...very nice stuff. Its amazing how much better the truck drives with the swaybar. Also put in some new window sweeps and felts with the chrome bead also from ECE. The ones from GMCpauls were without the chrome bead and were just not what I wanted.

I have read and re-read your build, and I have to tell you I love this truck. Your attention to detail is amazing. I really hope to get started on my own here very soon. I have a question- your Camaro tach, how did you install that? it looks great! Anyway, enjoy your ride bro, she's gorgeous.

Re: 24 years later....here we go

I finally got a lift for my shop here at the house. I had been wanting one for a long time. I put the Toyota on it first to try it out. It is really solid and stable and lifts effortlessly. Has 10- 3/4" anchors sunk deep in the slab. I even put high strenght epoxy down every hole. I am looking forward to getting my 71 up there and keeping the underside really clean and tidy.
