Re: 71 C10 project "Double Tap"

Looks awesome I bet it felt so good to get it on the road. Hope you have some moth balls or mouse traps ready for storage. Those damn things nest in the craziest places.

It's funny how that statement made the picture look sad instead of awesome. Normally that pic would look bada$$.

I say drive it. When the itch for new paint is overwhelming, then take it apart for paint. That's what I'm doing... well, maybe it's not waiting for the itch to be overwhelming as much as it is because I'm working on other things first.

Re: 71 C10 project "Double Tap"

Just caught up on your build. Wow you have some awesome fab skills. Truck looks great, love the satin body with the gloss red frame. I say don't pull it back apart and paint it. Take it from a guy who's truck has been apart for over 3 years, just drive it and enjoy it

Re: 71 C10 project "Double Tap"

Thanks everyone. Went today for my weekend visitation and winterized it and let it run for a while. It truly is a sad site to drive it back in the barn.

The brackets I made. Pretty much every crossmember and brackets were my own design. It took 10 times longer to do though. The bags are just chasistech 2600s

Re: 71 C10 project "Double Tap"

No updates. Just thought I'd bump the thread up so its not forgotten. Going out to visit Double Tap on Thanksgiving day and put another new battery in it since I can't seem to get a good one these days and let it run for a while. Hopefully I did a good job winter proofing it. It's been 20 degrees for days now.

Re: 71 C10 project "Double Tap"

Well after a big thanksgiving lunch I went down to the barn and decided to let Double Tap run for a bit. But... Couldn't help but take it around the block but I couldn't stop there. Needless to say I had the tires screaming from one gear to another. Not bad for the first 7 miles on the tires lol. I could not be more pleased with Double Taps first ripping. On a sad but funny note it looks like a broke the cheap parts store motor mounts Worth it!!!

Wow. You knocked it out of the park. Like how you have the truck name on the side. Going to have to catch up on your build when I have sometime.

Re: 71 C10 project "Double Tap"

Got Double Tap some Christmas presents this weekend. The must was the new prothane motor mounts since I broke the new napa rubber mounts in the first 7 miles. Also got a new overflow tank on the way and billet classic steering wheel. Can't wait to pull it out of storage this spring and finish it up while cruising it as much as possible. And ofcoarse more pictures!!!

Re: 71 C10 project "Double Tap"

Got several boxes of goodies waiting to go on Double Tap. Just need to find time to get them installed but this cold front is keeping me down. Heres a shot of my first drive out of the garage back in October and me with a big grin. It was a great day.

Cheers, to the top!

Re: 71 C10 project "Double Tap"

Another winter month down and springs right around the corner. Cannot wait to get Double Tap back home to put on these final pieces. But all this down time has me changing my mind. So a new air cleaner will be made along with different headers for the exhaust I want to build. E level sensors will be ordered, switch speed is nice but I don't want to play the "am I eating tires guessing game constantly". The bed will also be coming back off for some under bed toolbox additions. Just wanted you guys to know Double tap hasn't faded off behind a barn somewhere its just hibernating and building anticipation.

Finally busted Double Tap out! It did not want to leave its winter home and went kicking and screaming.
