Re: Its the shortbed's turn "Project Junkyard Resurrection"
A few weeks and the cab will be back on this and hopefully I can drive it around the yard some and in and out of the garage and shop. After the motor is running then the next goal is some new u joints on the driveshafts and a cv joint swap from one front driveshaft to the other,I had a complete front driveshaft from a 67-69 but they are shorter because of the transfer case and I only have part of one for this truck so 2 will become one. Then a trip to GMC Pauls for some cab parts,a little welding and cleaning on the cab, undercoat it,and bolt it on...sounds like a plan.Less than a month from the anniversery that I bought it a year ago...

Do you have any close up pics of the 205 skid plate. Just wondering how hard it would be to fabricate.

Tonight I drilled some holes and got the skidplate mounted.....tomorrow I am collapsing the intermediate shaft so the modified van tilt can go in when the cab is on

Re: Its the shortbed's turn "Project Junkyard Resurrection"
Jake,I posted some pics in the 4x4 Section...
I didnt get a pic of the cab but here is some pics of part of the rest of it.... This inner grill and a good outer grill I have will become one good grill...A FREE rust free core support is hiding behind it...And the other pic is of fenders, cowl, another grill,2 average condition tailgates and a extra swb drivers side bed panel and a hood all for the truck sitting in the "dark side" of the shop. That part isnt concreted BTW,why have part of it concreted when normally a rusty old truck sits in it,cept it was kicked out for parts storage. So if you can see anything in the pics, thats good ...I was going to get a pic of the bed for the truck but its outside and its raining... Re: Its the shortbed's turn "Project Junkyard Resurrection"
While the rain poured and I swore I seen a funnel cloud...I stayed in the shop and got the oil pressure built up,installed water pump (second one, first one wasnt right),got the pulleys on,got the valve covers on,got the valves adjusted, got out the radiator and hooked it up,filled it up with water, put in the distributor, put in plugs, ran plug wires...tomorrow bolt on the quadra-junk and put the belt on the pulley system and hope it starts

Re: Its the shortbed's turn "Project Junkyard Resurrection"
The 71 K10 is alive...
Over the weekend I worked switching water pumps (had the wrong one the first time) and hooking up lines, hoses, electrical, adjusting everything it finally roared to life I was a bit worried as it didnt have any oil pressure according to the gauge but after pulling a complete gauge cluster out of the truck to hook up in the chassis I got a good reading on the pressure so I continued on.....This afternoon I went out to the shop and after fighting with a sluggish start due to a bad ground I finally got a good ground and pushed the button and it fired up...I had to pour a little gas in the old quadra-junk to get things going a little quicker but it wanted to start and it did.It sounded great, and the rest of the town probably agrees as they probably heard it considering it is just open headers I am pleased with it,it sounds good, the timing is right and it idles good.I wish the cam was a bit more lumpy but Im not going to tear back into it to swap cams.It didnt take long to burn the paint off the headers.... The paint lasted all of 5 minutes. So,maybe if I can get the video from the camera uploaded to youtube or somethin I can share the video with y'all...as for now Im going to go start it up and listen to the motor some more.. Re: Its the shortbed's turn "Project Junkyard Resurrection"
Now to do mine someday. I may have to do a rig up too, instead of waiting for all the wiring and body stuff. I am getting very impatient.

Re: Its the shortbed's turn "Project Junkyard Resurrection"
Dustin, did you paint the engine? spraycan? which brand of chevy orange was it if so? I just realized that plasti-coat and dupli-color are waaaaaay different shades. One is a burnt orange and the other is very bright....
Any idea which is closer?

Re: Its the shortbed's turn "Project Junkyard Resurrection"
Yeah,I rattle can painted it.I got the paint from Napa.I forget the brand but still have the can so I can look tomorrow...The can was about $7 if I remember right..
This pic shows the color almost, the camera makes it look a little lighter than it actually is. Last edited by 1969k10stepside; 06-26-2007 at 10:44 PM. |

Re: Its the shortbed's turn "Project Junkyard Resurrection"
I just painted mine tonight, forgot the camera though.... Yours looks more like the burnt orange.... I think mine glows in the dark I did the tranny and TC in red (kinda original). I was going to do the black after seeing yours, that should help hide the gunk as it builds up...

Re: Its the shortbed's turn "Project Junkyard Resurrection"
I was gonna paint the t-case the original color till I found out it was a mopar color and didnt want any mopar colors on it so I just painted it black...I was going to pull the aluminum covers and paint them silver but I didnt..The tranny was just a plain aluminum tranny so I painted it to match the t-case

Re: Its the shortbed's turn "Project Junkyard Resurrection"
I did chrysler red since it was the only engine red paint that looked good. I also painted my performer intake orange since the protective coating was long gone.

I used the duplicolor chevy orange-red, it looks good. Not too reddish or orangish colored.
