Hmmm 22's eh? I wonder how those would work with a 3/5 drop...wonder if it would rub with a 40 series tire while turning...

They just threw those tires in to try and sell me. What do you think would be a good size to run? I do have a 4/6 drop. I was actually looking at 255/50/18 and 285/45/20 (or 285/50/20).

Just my opinion,...
but I don't like 18's and 20's.
I would runs a 20x8.5 with a 255/40-20 and a 20x10 with a 295/40-20.
A 50 series tire is too tall for a 4/6 drop.

There will most like be issues with any 4/6 drop and a tire larger than 26" tall, rubbing on the inner fenders. (on large bumps in the road).
73-87 trucks will be worse due to the shape of the inner fenders.

285/50's are 31.25" tall. i seriously doubt they'll work with a 4/6.

lolife is right on with the 40-series tire rec. for 20's.

Here is something you guy that are looking for tire can use:

Section Width

Following the letter(s) that identify the type of vehicle and/or type of service for which the tire was designed, the three-digit numeric portion identifies the tire's "Section Width" (cross section) in millimeters.

P225/50R16 91S

The 225 indicates this tire is 225 millimeters across from the widest point of its outer sidewall to the widest point of its inner sidewall when mounted and measured on a specified width wheel. This measurement is also referred to as the tire's section width. Because many people think of measurements in inches, the 225mm can be converted to inches by dividing the section width in millimeters by 25.4 (the number of millimeters per inch).

225mm / 25.4 = 8.86"

Sidewall Aspect Ratio

Typically following the three digits identifying the tire's Section Width in millimeters is a two-digit number that identifies the tire's profile or aspect ratio.

P225/50R16 91S

The 50 indicates that this tire size's sidewall height (from rim to tread) is 50% of its section width. The measurement is the tire's section height, and also referred to as the tire's series, profile or aspect ratio. The higher the number, the taller the sidewall; the lower the number, the lower the sidewall. We know that this tire size's section width is 225mm and that its section height is 50% of 225mm. On my OBS 99 Im running 245/50/20 upfront and 255/50/20 out back on a 4/6. Like i posted earlier. I know there different clearance issues from the 67-72's and the 88-98's but. It is possible to run a 50 series tire on a 4 inch drop. I ran 255/50/20 up front for a while, it rubbed on larger bumps and dips but it still fit. I didnt want to rub at all so i went with smaller upfront.

I use Miata Tire Size Calculator. I'm not sure if it's 100% accurate,... but it's close.

ok,

I dont know if we covered this but i spoke with the vendor who quoted me and the guy claims to have these wheels on a 68 Pick up with a 5 lug conversion and that all he needed was 1/4 inch spacer in the front wheels on standard length lug studs, and no problems.

Any thought son this? I personaly dont like that idea too much but it is a nice American made wheel for the $$

I put my front 20x8.5" wheel on a 5-lug 1.25" wide rotor and there was at least a 1/2" gap keeping the wheel from making contact with the face of the rotor.

Maybe the '68 had 1" rotors.
As far as I know this is the only solution (except machining the rotor) to make the old design work.

Where can a guy get these 1 inch rotors? Do you have any Part #'s for them?

They're just the light-duty rotors. Should be able to find them at any auto parts store by looking up the base model for your particular year, I would think.

Keep in mind that the narrower rotors may require different calipers as well. Not sure about that.

Yep.
Requires 1" rotor, and compatible caliper, and spindle.
If you are installing these on any truck other than a 73-87 (73-91 'burb),... you will need to swap ball joints and tie rod ends as well.

I know what you are saying.
I am rebuilding the entire front suspension on my '86 anyway,... so I just have to use the correct 1" rotor parts.

Now if the wheels end up on my '69,... I will be swapping out a ton of good parts just to bolt them up.

Ha,... and 5 months of "waiting just a few more weeks".

I don't get why you'd downgrade your braking to accommodate a poorly designed wheel. But that's just me.

Rotor is only .250" thinner.
Diameter of the rotor is the same.
Caliper will function the same.

The real reason,... all four 20's for $700.

I Agree with lolife,

I imagine that the .250 thickness will make a minimal measurable downgrade to the braking efficiency.

Hopefully the corrected hub will be available by the time i "need" the rims

For a cruiser/lt.duty truck that doesn't see 'hard' life, the 1.00" rotor combo would be fine. If you tug a trailer around.... 1.25" rotors are better suited.

Let us know your outcome with the wheels you ordered.
Several sources are saying they are still weeks (if not months) away from being ready with the new design.
