The big brake upgrade is interesting. Please post the link to the parts or PM me with that info. As I recall, the big brakes need at least a 16" wheel, is that right?

I'll bet being inside that plastic tent when blasting was a real pain! Are you still finding sand in unmentionable places?

looks real real good man!

what conversion u joint are you using for the flange rear? my ext cab rear axle is a flange type and I was just going to replace the rear to get a standard yoke on the pinion.

Cool. Thanks for saying so.

As far as the drive shaft and joints, I really hadn't gotten that far yet. I was smart enough to get the drive shaft out of the Explorer, so I have the stock "flang to u-joint" conversion...whatever that's called.

I assume there is a conversion joint available to whatever shaft. I remember from my auto parts slinging days that they make just about any combination you can imagine.

I don't really know what to do about a driveshaft either. Haven't done much research, but having one made seems reasonably priced.

well as I normally do, I dived into it yesterday.

napa makes a conversion joint for 8.8 flange to gm, UJ355, 30 bucks.

I ALSO found out the bolt circle on the for flange is the same as my ext rear, 4.25". so woot to you for making me look.

if your driveshaft needs to be 52-53" long, you can use the 2wd 2004 trailblazer (4" aluminum, 52" long) or the stock s10 ( steel, 53" long) and then the UJ355 will set you up.

Since I learned a lot from the builds, I thought I should share this:

My running boards were/are junk.

The pic doesn't do the amount of work justice. I straighten most of the mounting "u-channels" Also, you can see I cut out the long factory u-channel, and replaced it with 1"x1/2" square tubing.

I also eventually welded my studs (1/4" carriage bolts) into place and slotted the mounting points on the truck. Most of my "pressure tabs" that held the bolts in place were junk or missing.

Door repair

The PO laid a piece of shag carpet across the floorboard, and left it there to rot. Took out the floorboard, and where it was laying against the doors, it did some damage. In hingsight, this cab was probably too far gone.

So back when back when I blasted the cab, I discovered that the bottom of the dash was pretty rough. Since I want to keep the cab pretty stock, bought a portion of a dash from PaulsPickupParts and was crazy enough to try to weld it in.

Took my time with both the fit (used a file) and welds, and it turned out damn near perfect.

When he was really young, he used to stick whatever bolts I could find, into whatever holes they would fit into in the frame. Some day I'll be fixing all those rattles.
