Re: K5 or C5?

Reviving an old thread for one questions. I will also post a new one just in case>>
Keith, you said that C10 and R10 are in essence the same, but is there any difference between them at all. Reason I ask is because ia m fixing to buy an 87 and just found out that it is actually named R10 in the carfax. Is there anything I need to know, in terms of difference. I had read that the suspensions were different if so how, and is it good or bad. Thanks for any help/info

Re: K5 or C5?

I think the R10 was given to the trucks in 87 for the fuel injection(throtlle body).

I always thought the R/V designation was to distinguish from the C/K series in the 88-91 body style crossover Crewcabs, Blazers, Burbs and I think even reg cab 1 ton cab and chassis trucks.

Correct. The new trucks debuted early, like January '87, IIRC. The name change was to prevent confusion.

Any particular 87 model that had an R/V designation? Or do you mean that the 88-98 body style came out in early 87? Also, what's "IIRC"?

Re: K5 or C5?

1987 was the debut of the R/V series designation to alleviate the confusion with the new C/K series coming out.

No difference in suspension; the only substantiative difference was '87 was the first year for TBI ('86 was the last year for carb).

Didn't work out very well, did it?

(lol)

You'll notice that was the last time we did that; in the more recent model changeovers we kept the C/K designation and changed the model number instead....

Re: K5 or C5?

Confusion like how the 88-98 body style included the 99 Tahoe, 2000 Crewcab and 2000 Escalade...

Re: K5 or C5?

I guess it is too much tooling to change in order to debut a new series of trucks in its entirety, I can't imaging the amount of work, time, and money a change on that scale would take...
