Lost the clutch on the K5 on the way to the track had to deal with that too. DirtyLarry and our buddy did most of the work to swap it out while I was at work on a saturday. This snow run was the first time I had put it to the test off road. It was like a different truck.

I've also come across a 5.3 that we removed from a customer's truck when we installed a 5.3ho crate. I've got some more parts to scrounge up before the swap commences. Larry's putting up a convincing argument to ditch the dump truck trans and go with a nv4500 when the 5.3 drops in. It would be ideal, but I'm going to have to dig for the parts.

We got another snow run planned in a month or so.. Should be a good run if we get more snow.

Re: Post your snow pix!

I so pissed because every time we got snow out here something was stopping me from driving in it. In this pic there was a good amount of snow but the engine was done and I spent 4 days working in the snow swapping out the engine.

I'm still hopping that we get some snow that will stick around for more than a day. The last snow we had was only around for a few hours, and it was late at night so I didn't want to piss off the neighbors.

Are those up by Sawtooth mountain? I used to live up in Three Points, up near Lake Elizabeth. These were taken up there before the fires in 04-05... I cant remember

Dirtylarry,
I'm going to come wheeling with you sometime. I'm in the middle of swapping a 383 in the 72 and putting some TRUXUS tires on it. We are going to have to meet one of these days.

Sounds like a good plan all around. And,I'm sure you'll get more snow (right?). We have dodged all but a few inches here or there so far. Last year was awesome. We got no Mid-Atlantic ice or freezing rain...which tonight it is supposed to be snow at first turning to sleet, then freezing rain, ending with just rain at just above freezing. YUCK! And people curse snow around here. Well,I guess this is what you get for cursing snow.
Last year I was impressed with a snow before Christmas that dropped 18". Then in Feb. we got back to back 30"+ snows that reminded me of western mountain snows.

Here's pics from the 18"er. First on my road plowed:

Then,on an unused stretch of road unplowed:

Re: Post your snow pix!

Here's a vid from the last run. This corner kicked my K5's tail the last time I was on it. That time it was not lifted and running worn out 31's. With the 35's down to 20psi I took one shot at it and walked over it. Everybody else needed a couple of attempts. Then I pulled the sammy over it. I've got more video to edit, just haven't got around to it with all the other stuff going on.

Here's one from 09 pulling a stuck stock rubicon....

I'm biased too, but too the jeep's defense it was one of the first snow run's she had driven on herself. She did great on this last run. A little tidbit she learned is that sometimes e-lockers can get you in as much trouble as they get you out of. She had the jeep pinned on a tree as it started to slip down the slope sideways every time she touched the throttle. DirtyLarry gave the smart idea to shut off the lockers and try to drive out of it and she pulled herself out of trouble.

Yanking that sammy was even funnier. I've got video yanking it through the first rough spot and they didn't even have the wheels pointed in the same direction of travel. They complained I was trying to snap their necks when it lurched forward. I'll have to get the video up.

Re: Post your snow pix!

The whole "Jeep wrote the book on 4wd" thing kinda sets up the tone for Jeepers with a 'tude. That, and the "It's a Jeep thing, you wouldn't understand". Actually, those two slogans give me an attitude . When I had my '69 W200 Power Wagon in the '70s I wheeled with Jeeps. When they'd start with that Jeep wrote the book crap I'd reply,"Yeah, and Power Wagon taught Jeep how to write" I like,"It's a fullsize thing, you wouldn't understand. Jeeps make some killer trail machines...once you put a full GM drivetrain in them.
I bought an '87 Samurai new (my first new vehicle) for my wife when she was in nursing school. She had a long commute down to the university hospital in whatever weather. I liked that in '87 it still had round headlights, solid front axle, and a carb. Plans were, when she was done with it,to make a tiny trailbuster with it. That thing was so light. It could climb like a goat. We ended up having to trade it for the '90 Blazer when she graduated.

Heck yea! We’ll let you know when we make our next trip. Zoomad75 and few other buddies are hoping to go in February or early March, as that is when the deepest snow is found. That is, if I ever get my truck back together. This project has been the neverending project it seems. Trans is done but getting the rust fixed has taken a lot of time plus I still don't have seats!

Re: Post your snow pix!

We always welcome folks to come wheel with us. It keeps the experience interesting. It seems like whenever we go there is always one truck that is a surprise on how it works. The little sammy actually did pretty good bone stock and on stock sized street treads. It was only when it got deep and steep when the lack of ground clearance hurt it. That little sammy will be a beast with some aggressive 31's and a basic 2" lift.

On another rainbow lake run a very stock xj cherokee followed us up to the point where we got stopped. It was annoying but funny.

I've never really taken on any attitude to say what we drive is best over another. I like the creative element it takes to get anything out playing off road. Last trip I was the only Chevy out there with Larry's rig in dry dock. Our buddy Bill's Ramcharger is a beast, we had really nice golden eagle cj7, the TJ Rubicon, the sammy and a full size bronco.

Surprising jeeper's by piloting a fat-bodied chevy up "jeep" trails is something we truly enjoy. Larry and I wheeled our rigs over Tomichi Pass with a handfull of jeeps watching us from the summit. I'd swear they were waiting to see one of us fall. By the time we crept our way up to them we got some odd looks not too much conversation. They would have died if they saw the VW powered dune buggy we saw coming up Hancock pass behind us.

Re: Post your snow pix!

Hey,did you forget you had little Sammy back there? Just kidding. I bet you couldn't even feel him back there.
I don't take the my brand over your brand attitude either. I just had a comeback for the Jeep is all there is attitude when I had the big Dodge. My first wheeling was in a '62 Land Rover my dad had. He ended up with four of them. I always took the rear behind the Jeeps, early Broncos,Scouts,FJs and all. They'd get all upset because I messed up their tracks .
