Re: Neat Cupholder Idea for Factory Seat Guys

Yes, back from the dead.........What's up cstanley. I just put my drink on the dash and drive around. (coke can)It stays just fine untill i get on it and splash....... all over me. It is funny when my friends ride w/ me. I make a turn and they jump out of there seat to hold the drink. HAHAHA it stays right were i put it.

Oh i didn't read all of this one. I looked at the pics. But it is a good idea. I just put my bench seat back in. Might have to try this out. OH no i have a floor shift. It would get in the way. Oh well

She must be related to my wife. I drink serious plain black coffee and she drinks yuk.

The next time I head to the wrecking yard I'm going to check the dashes of the early 90's or so Dodge mini vans. Our 91 Grand Caravan has a slick cup holder that I think can be easily adapted to fasten under the trucks dash so that only a six or so by one inch panel shows and it will easily slip out to hold a drink.

I've got one of those plastic floor hump things but as often as not it will take a flip when you make a quick corner dumping everything.

Re: Neat Cupholder Idea for Factory Seat Guys

Picked one up tonite gonna try this myself

Did you have to remove the seat to drill the holes?

And could you make the brackets from scrap metal or is it just easier/cheaper to buy em? thanks

That's the beauty of this, you use the existing holes for the hog rings. Scrap metal is fine I guess. Thanks to cstanley, this is one of the best things I pulled from this board cause I use it every time I drive the truck, it looks great (IMHO), and it was dirt cheap. Enjoy!

Awesome cheap and very usable. Glad I'm not alone in having caught hot coffee from the dash. I've caught plenty tipping over on the seat too. Great job.

Re: Neat Cupholder Idea for Factory Seat Guys

I did pull my seat to drill holes for the brackets. I also used some scrap steel strap I had lying around for the brackets. I just made "L" shaped brackets and drilled/bolted them to the cup holder. Worked great.

I eventually made a shallow triangle shaped speaker box that bolted to the brackets and cut/screwed the top portion of the cup holder to the top of the speaker box. Cup holder works the same and you can't see the speaker box when sitting in the truck (sounds much better than just the under seat speakers).

Re: Neat Cupholder Idea for Factory Seat Guys

I have the similar thing but it is a factory piece from a truck 99-07 cupholder mounted to the front of the buddy buckets. Looks as though it was made there. Jim

Best cupholder I've ever had was a roll of duct tape. Got one in each vehicle.

Re: Neat Cupholder Idea for Factory Seat Guys

Has anyone else successfully added this cup holder? If so, did the holes line up as nicely for them too or was OP just lucky?

Re: Neat Cupholder Idea for Factory Seat Guys

I got a cup holder off a 2005 chevy pickup fixed middle front seat portion and I am going to rivet it to the seat frame. Will post pictures the weekend of July 8th is the next time I go down south to work on my truck.

Re: Neat Cupholder Idea for Factory Seat Guys

Here is my setup. I followed cstanley's pics and it came out just like he said. I may have bored out the holes in the frame to fit the bolts, but that was it. Great addition to the truck.

Re: Neat Cupholder Idea for Factory Seat Guys

My wife bought this console for me a few years ago. Sprayed it w/vinyl spray.. comes in gray. Stays on the seat good, elbow rest, 2 adjustable cup holders, and a little storage inside. My glovebox is full of A/C plumbing. Home Depot online, about $60

Re: Neat Cupholder Idea for Factory Seat Guys

I had a cup holder from an S-10 in my last truck and it worked great. If you can find a photo of cup holder you will see the cup holder slides up on a bracket and clips in place. To remove cup holder for cleaning or whatever, you just push bottom clip and it slides off metal frame and the frame can attach to seat or to floor. Looks original since it is OEM. Very simple to install. Hope this helps...

i used to have a ford seat that had a removable plastic cup holder. i really liked it, but i got rid of the seat. with the freshly rebuilt, reupholstered original front seat, i needed a replacement cupholder (yesterday i managed to catch an entire HOT 16 oz. cup of coffee using only my lap and my freshly reupholstered seat. it was originally sitting on that wonderful cupholder also known as the dashboard.) anyway, i went out tonight and grabbed one off the shelf, along with a few metal braces from Lowe's, and wound up with a pretty neat solution.

i got the cupholder from autozone. it's made by a local company, so i don't know what everyone's access might be. it's called the wedgie, (thanks orange) about $5.
then i picked up a pack of 3-1/2" x 3/4" angle braces and an 8" x 1" *i think* strap. the neat thing is that it was cheap, looks OK, and is removable.
That looks like a clean, simple install and is easily removable so I just ordered the wedgie. Thanks for the great idea!
