Re: Why a 67-72 Chevy/GMC truck?
back in the early 80's when I was about 13 years old, I would wait for the school bus where each morning a dark green 1969 GMC would drive by. about a year and a half later, after having some money from a job, I walked down to owner's house and talked him into selling me his truck for $1000. I had it painted within a year, then again in a maroon color 2 years later as you see in this 1984 picture. That's also where I stood all those years for the school bus. I guess mainly, growing up in the country I was born a truck kid. In 1988, I then purchased a 1972 GMC SWB 4x4 Sierra Grande with all options minus the tilt.

Re: Why a 67-72 Chevy/GMC truck?
My '56 F100 is too slow and light duty. I didn't want to modify it like everyone else, I already had stock spare parts so I'd like to keep it stock. I also don't think I'm capable of a custom drivetrain swap.
So I wanted a truck with a big engine, high enough gears for hiway, common enough to have all parts available easily, and it needed to be HD. Oh and it MUST be stick shift. Enter one 1972 GMC 3500 SRW 402, 4sp. ![]() Ya'll have some awesome stories, keep 'em coming. |

Re: Why a 67-72 Chevy/GMC truck?
Back in 2000 or 2001 I decided that, being a homeowner, I needed a truck to haul things. I told a few friends to let me know if they see anything for sale. One friend mentioned his uncle had an old GMC he was looking to get rid of. Original owner, had bought it only for taking his family camping. It had a canopy put on right after it was purchased new, and had never been off since. So one day I went over to look at it. The owner opened up the doors to his shed, and there it was, looking much better condition that I had expected. He told me he had been offered $1000 for trade in, but he figured they would jack up the price of the S10 he was buying. He said he was getting too old to deal with the manual transmission and the lack of power steering. I offered him $1000 cash, and he accepted. So I took it home that day. I've been using it to haul things since then. I washed it last weekend and took a few random pictures. Here's what it looks like now:

Re: Why a 67-72 Chevy/GMC truck?
In 1982 I picked up a very nice 72 short fleet side pickup and I've had at least one 67-72 ever since. 1970 is the only year I haven't owned.

Re: Why a 67-72 Chevy/GMC truck?
Dumb luck. It was parked in my old stomping grounds, 1989. I liked the looks, swb. Didn't know it had a BBC until late in the deal, and thought, I guess thats cool. I wasn't around mechanics. 30 years later its all restored to better than new. They're very cool and dependable.

Re: Why a 67-72 Chevy/GMC truck?
Its all because of my Dad..
He was a truck guy...mostly leaning to GM... I grew up riding with him in his trucks, fishing, camping and hunting. My entire childhood was me riding with my Dad in his trucks. Some of my fondest childhood memories are riding with my dad in his 71 c10 shortbed. It was my favorite of all his trucks. It had black diamond tuck interior, It was primered gray and had rally's with white letters. And man did it have a great exhaust sound. My entire childhood was filled with these trucks. so yea this is what I know and what I am. This 72 is my newest get. Ive been looking for one in this shape for awhile. Cant wait to drive this sucker.

Re: Why a 67-72 Chevy/GMC truck?
My great grandfather purchased the 1971 gmc truck brand new, ordered it nearly fully loaded with a Sierra badging,
I fell in love with the truck as a small kid, when we would take trips in it or go get snacks, it always had a musty and gas smell in the cab. Ha ha But, after my grandfather passed. I was determined to buy his old blue gmc truck back and sure enough nearly 12 years later It was mine and I’ve drove it ever since It must be in my blood to be a devoted GMC fan haha |

Re: Why a 67-72 Chevy/GMC truck?
My 1st vehicle was a 68 GMC truck back in 1974. I scrapped the rusted old beast in the late 70's and got into Corvettes. In 2014 I started looking for a Chev truck and joined this forum. I soon decided the 1967 was the year for me. I found an original paint bare bones truck and then collected OE 67 options to make it into the CST it is today.
