I had to work up in the Oakland hills after the Oakland, CA fire a few years back. Almost all the vehicles up there with aluminum wheels had there wheels melt to nothing. Aluminum emblems, trim, mirror arms would melt in a hot fire. In the hottest spots in the Oakland hills, even steel frames melted down. There was a section up there that I remembered that had white ashes. The San Diego fire was much bigger and hotter than the Oakland fire from what I hear. Look at the outer grill of that truck. The bottom is melted. FWIW

Channel 8 just aired a story about a guy up in Crest that lost his "classic Chevrolet pick-up" in the fire but I didn't see it because I was helping my son with his homework.

That was a really nice looking truck .... mother nature has her way. As long as him and the family are fine , there is another truck out there . Wish him the best of luck as well as all the other people that have been devastated by that fire ..... jyd

STAINLESS WONT MELT??? EVERYTHING HAS A MELTING POINT & THOSE NON-MELTING STAINLESS MIRRORS ARE HELD ON BY ALUMINUM ARMS.
I KNOW.... ,I KNOW..... JUST IN CASE THIS GUY DOESN'T FEEL BAD ENOUGH...... LETS ALL ACUSE HIM OF STRIPPING HIS TRUCK
(AS A RAGING FOREST FIRE APPROACHES HIS HOME & EVERYTHING HE OWNS) & INTENSIONALLY LETTING HIS TRUCK BURN TO THE GROUND. YEA THATS WHAT PROBABLY HAPPENED. IT HAPPENS ALL THE TIME.

No those STAINLESS mirrors won't melt in a fire like that, neither would the base where they are attached to the truck, also where is the head to the mirrior, it should be laying next to it. And where are the steel belts from the tires????? Those won't melt in a fire like that especially since it did not get hot enough to melt the entire ALUMINIUM GRILL and ALUMINUM LICENSE PLATE. And yes I have seen several car fires, because I am a firefighter and had to go to several like this one. Even as hot as this vehicle got it still had the stainless trim and steel belts left!!!!

Now in my last pic, Tell me what type of vehicle this was, and what type of rim it has on it. That fender was untouched and so was the rim this was the only thing left to identify this vehicle by the license plate was even melted off. Oh yeah, there was a person in this vehicle, can you find the passenger compartment????

c'mon people

when I bought my truck from him he had 3 other trucks, 2 Cheyenne Supers and one fully restored 69, Both of the Cheyennes are parked right outside of his house, the garage is about 100 feet away so if in fact they did have to flee I'm sure they took the truck closest.

He also had loads of new parts still in boxes, he was probably working on the truck, perhaps putting sport mirrors on, just a thought.

Ok, anyone who thinks that was stripped pre-fire is either not paying attention, or is smoking some serious crack.

Look closer at the pic, I see front fender and bedside trim on the ground, and I also see a lot of misc stuff kicking around. It looks like they might have swept a path through there too.

Dion, do you have a bigger pic? I'll bet in a bigger pic, you would be able to find a lot of other pieces that are supposedly "removed".

Why aren't the mirrors attached? Because the ford arms have nylon inserts that the screws screw into. The nylon melted and the mirrors dropped, simple as that.

Also, the grille didn't get nearly as hot as the cab area. Why? In-cab gas tank and all that upholstery. Campers can burn pretty hot too. Notice that all the aluminum has melted off the camper.

It's obvious that the tires burned, and I know that aluminum and steel and any and all parts of tires can be burned/melted to nothing in a hot fire. Remember the Rodeo-Chedeski fire from my neighborhood a couple of years ago? I've seen it first hand. I've seen what was once a car be just a puddle of melted metals.

It is a shame about the pickup. It was a very nice looking pickup.

The picutre?? What the F@#$

Hey Black and Blue,
I dont know where this guy lives but you can't compare some outside car fire to what was going on here. I was in Ramona and Descanso and and the world was ablaze. This half ass picture you've attached is no comparison to what was going on here last week. I had 5 mins to write this letter which is about the same amount of time people had to grab there things and get out of their house.
