My dad told me this one:

When taking something apart take a picture of it with a poloroid (or digital camara for the new century) so you can put it back together the way it was....such as brake drums.

Ain't joking about the fire extinguisher....my wife tried lighting the kitchen on fire a few weeks ago...had to break out teh extinguisher to put it out (made a big mess). Went out and bought a replacement that night.

While disconecting the postive terminal on the battery, don't let the wrench hit the metal A/C line. ttsssssssssssss

If you've hotwired your car/truck and it stalls, make sure your in park before finding the problem

wrench with surgical gloves.... I love em-keeps the gunk out of the fingernails!!

On carb-vs-FI.... I worked on the northstar team (cadillac 4.6) back in the early 90's, I know FI inside and out. I like carbs- keep it simple!

Dont allow your truck to be non operable for any longer than is possible, dont let it get inoperable unless you have to.

Always convert to HEI

Always disconnect that battery before working on pretty much anything.

Wash your hands frequently.

Double check lug nuts any time you've had a wheel off.

Dont touch that pit bull thats foaming at the mouth. Know what I mean?

O.K. I got a few other pretty good ones.

1.Soak the rusty old manifold bolts and brake line fittings repeatedly with liquid wrench or PB DAYS before you are going to tackle the job.

2.Sharp blows on the wrench or ratchet with the palm of your hand on the really tough ones saves you alot of strain and alot of skinned knuckles.

3.Order of methods for removing the stuck nuts and bolts
1. box wrench
2. impact wrench
3. six point socket and breaker bar
4. smoke wrench

4. Speedbleeders

5. When your just about ready to torch the thing yourself just walk away. It will be there in the morning.

6. Give it a tuneup

Here's my .02 cents:

Everyday's a Holiday (Dad)

Always keep a Map in the glovebox, Pantyhose (in case you break a belt, you dirty fools),a blank check in your wallet (you can always right a check to cover your arse), a fire extinguisher, and a can of fix a flat!

Write down the year vehicle every part for your truck comes off of. I've got a '97 s10 fuel door filler, etc., etc.

Always disconnect the battery before working on electrical!

The number 1 rule for buying parts (after the wife finds out):

It's always easier to ask for forgiveness than permission!

In some states it IS cheaper to keep her!! (from a buddy)

There ain't Nothin' that can't be fixed (with enough money), or rigged(for us poor folks)
