Re: HD relay conversion headlight harness available!

Hey, Dan. The ground issue you have IMO is not a result of the factory wiring design-you must have something else going on. On an otherwise trouble free lighting circuit, running low and high beams through relays relieve the headlight switch from having to carry the voltage load. When upgrading to HID style bulbs for example, current demand goes up but the headlight switch has a built in ballast to restrict current so it ends up getting a lot hotter as the higher intensity bulbs try to pull more and more current.

The 4-HI mod for this circuit allows you to retain all 4 lights on all the time-even when running factory fog lights. DOT regulations state that for street/highway use you are only allowed 4 forward facing lights to be on at any one time. That's why all aftermarket lighting companies state "for off road use only"....its sort of a legal disclaimer for them. I build my lighting harnesses with the 4-HI as integrated or as a connect-disconnect feature depending on what you want.

And since I build harnesses full time, I give you the option of either a headlight splice harness kit or a firewall a forward replacement lighting harness.

Re: HD relay conversion headlight harness available!

Since I`m fairly new to this sort of thing, does this kit make the lights brighter? My 97 GMC`s lights are so dim at night its scary. I do need to polish out the lenses but still could be brighter. Is there anything else I would need to do? Just unplug the OEM harness and plug this in? How long does it take to install? Need any special tools?

Re: HD relay conversion headlight harness available!

Polishing the lenses or replacing them altogether is priority #1. Then, if you still feel they aren't bright enough, the relay kit is designed to splice into your existing harness with NEW plugs and a sealed fuse holder-I've tried the Chinese "ceramic" plugs and they are on the same quality control level as dried toothpaste so I use GM Delphi OEM style thermoplastic plugs with oversized terminals and wiring-something you can't get with "ceramic-toothpaste" plugs, either.

This kit is designed to splice into your headlight wiring (lt green/tan) and no special tools are needed except for a crimper and/or a soldering iron. I can supply a full front lighting replacement harness from the firewall forward as well-pricing depends on year. PM for more details on full harnesses.

Received my set a few days ago, not installed yet, they are very well made and will be great when I get them installed..

Re: HD relay conversion headlight harness available!

I am finally ready to order. At this time I can only afford 2 sets. I need one for the 1994 K3500 6.5 diesel and one for the 1998 K2500 6.5 diesel Suburban. so they need to mount on the drivers / right side.

As stated I would like to able to plug into the headlight harness the way that Baron's harness did.

IIRC you unplugged the headlight and plugged that connector into his harness to trigger the relays.

If you could duplicate Baron's harness with longer ground wires - or just one ground wire to go to the battery. - I didn't quite understand why he had 2 incredibly short ground wires, instead of tying them together to run back to the battery - to match the length of the hot wire or longer with 3/8 eyelets and your mountable relay sockets it would be good.

Re: HD relay conversion headlight harness available!

How does your harness deal with daytime running lights?

The LMC harness says not to use with DRL's

His, as well as LMC's (and just about anyone else's) use a relay to draw power from the battery to feed to your lights, as opposed to your light switch. Your light switch will now just act as the trigger for the relay.

That said, DRLs are simply a low power feed to either your low beams or your high beams (depending on vehicle), when your light switch is turned off. When you install and HD harness on a vehicle with DRLs, the low power feed is now being pulled from the battery, becoming a full power feed which in turn makes for full brightness DRLs.

Because the HD harnesses don't vary much in how they operate, and are pretty universal to all vehicles, they state not to use it with DRLs because those vehicles who use the high beams on lower power for the DRLs, will now be shining high beams on high power at all times...

This is my understanding of how it works, anyways.

Re: HD relay conversion headlight harness available!

Oh, and the solution? Simply remove your DRL-FOG fuse. Usually found in the convenience fuse panel, location between the door and the dash, by steering column.

Re: HD relay conversion headlight harness available!

Well, I have received the harness and it looks great, thanks! I do have a question about installation. The tags say "to tan/lt green from firewall harness". Where are these wires that I need to attach to? Are they the ones both running to the light switch in my dash? Am I cutting them off and attaching to them or am I leaving the current ones attached and just splicing into them? Sorry, I never messed with any light harness before..

Thanks again!!!

PM sent! Glad you like the harness! In your case, best route is to replace your existing harness with the one I provided you with.

Re: HD relay conversion headlight harness available!

I have several types available as well as custom built harnesses-this one is for a member who also opted for a 3rd relay for aux. lighting at his discretion. This kit features a 4-HI adapter plug-in which is designed to add to give 4-HI operation BUT, if for some reason you don't need or want it later, you can simply unplug it and the low/highs return to normal operation.

If anyone has specific requirements for a HD headlight kit, PM me for details-I can integrate nearly anything for custom lighting.

Re: HD relay conversion headlight harness available!

Ok, good news! My adapter connectors that were on backorder came in and I'm shipping out a few harnesses in the morning! If anybody wants a plug n play kit, shoot me a PM! These plug into your existing headlight connectors, provide 4-HI relay power for lows and highs using (2) 40A relays and can be installed on either side of the engine bay.

This kit uses HD Delphi terminals, ringlets as well as flame/heat resistant OEM style wire loom with rosebud clips included for a factory style install!

Here's a pic showing the difference between the stock headlight connector- 18ga crimped OEM style and mine with 14ga wiring and soldered connection.

Re: HD relay conversion headlight harness available!

I'm building a couple kits for members this week-if anybody wants to get into the build rotation, PM me with what you need/want! I can build to suit if you have something specific in mind-extra running lights, aftermarket fogs, etc.

Re: HD relay conversion headlight harness available!

Yes I do-I make them for pretty much every year. I include new Packard 59-series terminals and can provide bulkhead out harnesses. Wires are All color coded and labelled using only US materials! These are NOT your typical EBay kits-you won't be disappointed! PM for details. Thanks!
